It's super complicated and VERY true to the science. Every astrobiologist board game geek should get a copy! I'm SO impressed at the research behind this game.

The C++ library provides input/output, basic spatial operations such as conversion between spherical coordinates and HEALPix pixels, and also sophisticated spatial operations such as querying cones or polygons, as well as upsampling/downsampling, smoothing, and fast spherical harmonic

This sounds very doom-ish but SciX works great for astro, I have made the switch entirely from ADS and haven't lost any function or speed. 🔭 (would be interested in hearing about usage in other fields)
Well this is worrying. NASA has maintained funding for ADS but not SciX (a broader database). In response, management is planning to *close* ADS in Feb 2026, forcing all users to switch to SciX. ☄️🔭

I'm happy to report that "Scenario 2" won't be necessary, as NASA has just communicated to us that SciX funding will continue in 2026 (albeit at a reduced level). Therefore, we will not be forcing astronomers to leave ADS, but rather develop a plan that allows a longer transition.

As of today, ADS shows that ASCL entries have over 20K citations. Citations are not a perfect metric, but they do show ASCL is being used & is useful for citing software, thereby allowing code authors to get credit for the computational methods they contribute to the field, w00t!
