Pitch: Delphine’s always wished for a life as romantic and adventurous as her stories. With any brief escape punished by her employer, she’s desperate to flee, if not for Otto; her best friend, and the only family she’s known. So when he is sent with pirates after a mythical map, she refuses to be left behind. At sea, a budding romance with the Captain reveals he’s tailed by a dark past, one he’d sabotage the mission to escape. But the pirates claimed Otto’s life if anything goes wrong, and Delphine will do anything—even use the Captain’s past against him—to get the map and save Otto. Though Hunter and his girls had always ensured Delphine did not see anything vulgar or unsightly, it was difficult to be ignorant when sitting around a dinner table amongst chattering girls. They told tales of their clients, giggling or rolling their eyes at wild requests from sailors. Hunter would shush them and send a pointed look in her direction, only goading them to spin even more dramatic and rather gruesome tales. Delphine would blush, but she took the joy in their teasing gratefully; summers spent in Hunter's Bordello were only full of fond memories. But they should have prepared her better for the view she had walked in on.

Each time accompanied by a lamenting sigh, the book’s scarred spine deforming further as she wedged it open with whatever she could find. Pots and pans weren’t preferable, but were the usual suspects. It didn’t matter that she could recite the tale cover to cover with her eyes closed. She longed for the rhythm of the words to lull her into another land, another time, another life. An adventure, or a change in scenery from cold stone and colder steel. Far away from chamber pots, snooty sneers and vile tempers."

With Otto's safety tied to the stone, Delphine must do anything to obtain the map. Even if it means using the captain's secret against him. Indecent. Dangerous. Erotic. Dangerous. Those were the whispers Delphine Moore and her dear friend Lord Oto Benton had been repeating to one another while getting ready for his birthday ball-at least, 'bithday ball' was what sat at the top of the invitations. Earlier, huddled in the corridor behind the closed door of the Duke's office, the pair had overheard an abundantly different reason for the festivities. "What if we have missed their arrival?" Otto panted, both of them slipping through the servant's entrance into the grand hall. All of it swooping marble and cream silks. "You spent so long on your hair-" "And now my hair looks lovely. We haven't missed it, look." Delphine nodded towards the ball. Indeed, most guests had already arrived, but a simple glance told her their special guests hadn't made it yet. Everybody was too polished, too poised, too stick-up-one's-arse. Nothing appeared indecent, nor dangerous.
