To be crystal clear: it's not about what the scientists "told CBC News", not just informed opinion. The science itself is very clear. You can question perhaps the degree of NL contribution to climate change, but it's fact that the oil from here is a contributor. Full stop. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Wakeham says no link between N.L. wildfires, oil industry in campaign where climate change largely absent | CBC News
The 2025 provincial election is happening in the direct aftermath of one of the worst climate-related disasters in Newfoundland and Labrador’s recent history.

"Energy dominance," you say?

As of this year, *China is exporting more clean-energy technology than the US is exporting the dirty stuff*.

The future is green energy & China, not the US, is set to dominate it.
China Is Beating the US in the Battle for Energy Export Dominance
China’s exports of clean energy technology hit a record in August, with $20 billion shipped globally.

Huh. Call from mayor to VOCM Open Line making pitch for shipping the Marineland belugas to sheltered cove near Burgeo. "We've sent some letters off..." No responses yet.

Posted this just as a reminder of the many people still in the thick of it, even if the fire is out.

Just saw on Facebook that some of my extended family are finally getting back into their home after the CBN wildfire. Happy for them for this milestone. And my heart goes out to everyone - them included- still on the long road to some normalcy. #nlpoli

There's a lot in this transit piece from The Independent, but I feel like this is one part NL doesn't talk about nearly enough. The business case for public transit in St. John's – The Independent share.google/7QkcZfQxo7Qr...

This is an excellent piece, addressing not just the news funding but the Facebook news ban in a more meaningful way... "I do worry about the knowledge base of Canadians if news is never allowed back on Facebook, since a lot of people are still relying on that to understand what’s going on.”

Also, to repeat The Weekly Writ here: "Hopefully we’ll soon have a poll published that has been conducted during the campaign to give us a better clue of what to expect — otherwise voters might cast a ballot with an out-of-date impression of where this race stands."
...I'm not holding my breath.

Listening to radio this morning and heard news brief on Narrative research poll, with NO MENTION of when it was conducted, let alone anything on margin of error or other context. People like Éric are out flagging relevant info, but how many are seeing/hearing it? #nlpoli

The Liberals made inroads in new parts of the country in the 2025 election while they fell back in some traditional strongholds. Has their path to a majority changed? Plus, a new NL poll! (Sort of?) www.thewrit.ca/p/weekly-wri...
Weekly Writ 10/2: Has the Liberal path to a majority changed?
The Liberals made up ground in unexpected places in the last election, potentially giving them more paths to a majority government

So the meeting is there. Anyone interested, you can go to the stream/YouTube and jump to about 14:10 and that's where it starts. Many thanks to the collective brain trust for help with this one.

Any NS people who can chime in? There's supposed to be a 9am committee meet. I pulled the stream but, while the wait music is... interesting, I'm not getting any Public Bills committee. What am I missing? Was it moved? Is there an in camera piece at the top? 🤷 www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu_J...

Those who know me know I do like a little 🍎 chat. Very much enjoyed Willow Kean's latest on Substack (@thelittleredchicken) Weekend decompression at its finest.

That's all to say I'm taking Saturday morning fun, light but not American podcast recommendations. Toronto-centric Ontariana need not apply.

Drives me crazy we don't have (that I know of) something more like BBC Radio 4 news quiz in Canada. Listened to latest back to back with CBC News quiz. CBC show spent over 10 mins on beer/Moosehead going all cans. Not comparable maybe, but can we get some real, regular, relaxed news chat then?
