I took a different turn in the woods and it lead to this 😍
A forest trail in early autumn A wide gravel path between tall reeds and brush beneath a clear blue sky A lone bench facing open water beneath a bright sky A small private beach

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

I wouldn’t trade being a morning person for anything. Also, I think I might need to read everything Shirley Jackson has ever written.
A book (a hardcover copy of Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House) is open on an outdoor table. There’s a small wicker basket within reach that holds a travelers journal and some other things that aren’t quite visible. There’s a white and brown ceramic mug to the right and a garden in the distance. The still-rising sun is shining on everything in the photo and casting some shadows.

Usual June Dev Update! 👀

This month we've been designing all of the more "advanced" creatures you'll encounter and fight as you progress in the game. It's been a fun challenge. Here's some thumbnails from our contract artist Audre Schutte!

Read about our process here: finji.co/news/2025/09...
Concept art of seven alien-like creatures for our upcoming game, Usual June. They each feature varying amounts of some kind of crystal-like structure, but all look pretty distinct from each other.

It looks like potatoes and molasses outside today
A body of water surrounded by autumnal-looking trees and brush. The sky is clear and bright. The same body of water and the same autumnal trees and brush, but there’s a swan and a cormorant swimming in the distance. Calm water with boats docked in the distance.

I use them to archive my year. On the daily pages I journal about my day or something I’m thinking a lot about, usually with photos or some kind of visual. The weekly pages are more surface-level records of what I actually do each day. And the monthly calendars I use as a little gratitude log.

Hobonichi cousin - light on the water obviously because the paper is thin, but it holds up quite well and doesn’t bleed through. I’m not doing full water color paintings - just adding some gentle color here and there.

I love them! I like using watercolor and fountain pens so the paper is perfect. This will be my third year archiving the year in the cousin!

You're exploring an abandoned observatory with old books, notebooks, and a ritual space. A ghost appears. Will you talk to him? He might have interesting things to say. 🤔

👻 Check out Usual June, the action adventure game we're making, on Steam!

This was just cacao to taste, oat milk, a splash of tahini, star anise, cinnamon, cloves, and a pinch of sea salt

spiced cacao with tahini today. my stomach doesn’t love coffee anymore but my soul still does, so I’m getting creative
A mug of hot cacao with a floating star anise. You can see pieces of a room in the background, a crystal candlestick, a potted calathea.

The buff-tip moth (Phalera bucephala) has mastered a very particular kind of camouflage.

When they close their wings up, they resemble a broken twig.

Native to large parts of Europe, there's regional pattern variation that reflects the local tree species. This one best resembles birch twigs?

I’ll never be a runner with good times. Not while the light hits the trees like this and there’s hummingbirds in the park.
The sun emphasizes the first signs of red and yellow and orange on a deciduous tree.
