Medbeds were also a plot element in the sci-fi film Elysium.

In the event of a U.S. government shutdown, STScI will extend the James Webb Space Telescope Cycle 5 proposal submission deadline for affected scientists. Details: https://www.stsci.edu/contents/news/jwst/2025/jwst-cycle-5-deadline-extension-in-case-of-government-shutdown #NASAWebb 🔭 🧪 ☄️

Jackson to Andrews for the touchdown.. beautifully done.

The Ravens did a pretty good job of stopping them last weekend.

Great album. Really sets the mood of the story.

Nice overhead pass of the ISS tonight. A reminder of the remarkable things NASA does. Hoping we can continue to explore the universe…
A photograph of the sky directly overhead at night. Trees surround the borders of the image. In the center is a small bright trail of light which is the international space station.

Sounds like a good recommendation to me. I enjoyed the tv series. I should read the books. Thanks!

Another timely ballad by Elle and, for me, so appreciated. Chin up indeed.

You’re too reactive. Start being proactive. Don’t wait for the infractions to happen and then post on social media. We want real action to address this.

A great example of great observatories combining their unique capabilities to reveal new information about the cosmos. Enjoy!

A new view of the Butterfly Nebula! 🦋

Webb joined forces with ALMA to bring you this unprecedented view into the heart of the nebula – seen here alongside optical & near-infrared images from Hubble. A stellar example of teamwork 👏

Three views of the same nebula, presented in a triangle with one image on top and two on the bottom. The bottom two images, which are labeled ‘Hubble Optical’ and ‘Hubble Near IR’, show the nebula at roughly the same scale. These two images show some similar features, including a dark dust lane that runs through the centre of the nebula and two broad clouds that emerge from either side of the dust lane like the outstretched wings of a butterfly. A diamond-shaped region centred on the dust lane is outlined in each of these images. In the optical Hubble image, the nebula appears clumpy and nearly opaque, with few background stars showing through the cloudy material. The nebula appears in different shades of cream, yellow and orange, with the lightest colours appearing closest to the centre. The background of space is black with a handful of stars that are tinged pink. In the near-infrared Hubble image, the nebula appears cream coloured and most opaque near the centre, then becomes reddish with purple streaks and more translucent out toward the wings of the nebula. There are hundreds of background stars in the image, many of which are visible through the nebula. The top image zooms in on the diamond-shaped region near the centre of the other two images. This image is labeled ‘Webb & ALMA, Mid-IR & Sub-mm’. This image is completely different from the other two, showing a bright source at the centre that is surrounded by greenish nebulosity and several looping lines in cream, orange and pink. The upper-right and lower-left corners of this image show a purple streak pointing out of the image.

One of the many reasons I love Boston!
mayorwu.boston.gov
Last week, Boston received a letter from AG Bondi threatening to prosecute officials and withhold funds unless we cooperate with carrying out mass deportations.

The US Attorney General asked for a response by today, so here it is: stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures.

Hopefully pharmaceutical companies will continue to invest in and develop the technology since it works.

Good response!

The Taylor Scale measures how far a study deviates from rigorous evidence-based science. A key metric is the extent to which a study ignores the literature and standards of the topic, and how they curate the narrative and analysis to fit their goal.

For the morning crowd, here are all the observations stored in the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes. A visual created by Julie Imig, one of our amazing astronomical data scientists. Follow the link below for more colors and even a movie.
MAST's view of the sky, labeled with well known astronomy surveys. it is blue and white where there are many observations, especially around the south ecliptic cap and along the milky wy where there are many stars.

Yeah you're right. It gets kpc to meters correct and gets years to seconds correct but somehow cannot do kpc/year conversion to m/s correctly.

Don’t advertise these. Not useful.

You identified the key attribute - “responsible”. Sorely lacking in certain “leadership” positions.
