Hi! I’m Wendy and I’m an earthquake geologist and science communication specialist. I post about earthquakes, geology, cats, kids and comms.

According to BlueSky I’m a “delightful blend of scientific rigor and domestic chaos” 😁. 🧪⚒️
Could someone please make podcast interviewing celebrities siblings?

How’s Taylor Swift’s brother doing? What’s life like as the 3rd Manning kid? What’s it like to be the not famous Hemsworth? How is life as Lady Gaga’s sister? I would definitely listen to that.

A M5.5 earthquake killed at least ten people in Bangladesh today. What made this moderate event so deadly? And what do we know about seismic hazards in the country?

The most entertaining thing to me about football these days is making ridiculously comments about the teams “outfits” and watching my husband try and keep his cool. 😂

It’s true! If you feel earthquake shaking or receive an earthquake alert, dive under a desk! Or as we like to say - drop, cover, and hold on.

Yesterday I had the honor of giving a talk to the @ebtsoyp.bsky.social
network, where I discussed earthquake science with 400+ kids in 23 classrooms in 4 countries!

Video linked below - intended for kids but suitable for all quake curious audiences. 😁

I was up early today for a quick interview on The Weather Channel to talk about the potential for debris flows in Southern California.

A debris flow is a fast moving mixture of water, rock, soil, and even trees and boulders. Debris flows can damage structures, bury roads, and clog streams.

I was quoted in the SF Chronicle the other day about the M3.5 quake in Vallejo.

It’s a mystery to me why anyone cares about a M3.5 in California 🤷‍♀️ but I’ll take any excuse to remind people that California is earthquake country and it’s important to be prepared!
