In a departure from writing about the Big West, I used the Grayson Rodriguez trade to look at the winner's curse, and how it affects MLB draft rooms.

Draft Day’s Hidden Trap: How the Winner’s Curse Skews Teams’ Best Laid Plans
When the Orioles drafted high-school flamethrower Grayson Rodriguez with the 11th pick in 2018, they were buying a future they could only imagine. Last night, that distant bet finally came to a hea…

I wasn't sure if the Astros would tender Enyel De Los Santos a contract, but I'm glad to see them work something out.
Seeing him generate more swinging strikes was an encouraging development in Houston, and if he maintains that, he ought to be a serviceable arm in the bullpen.
Enyel De Los Santos and the Astros agreed at $1.6 million, source tells @theathletic.com. De Los Santos will get a $100,000 bonus if he appears in 60 games.

For as much outfield help as this team needs, I'd be mildly surprised if both Jake Meyers and Jesús Sánchez are on the roster entering Spring Training.

Paying around a projected $10 million combined for Mauricio Dubón and Ramón Urías in 2026 made little sense for the Astros. The former's versatility in playing both the infield and the outfield also helps.
The Astros designated Ramón Urías for assignment on Tuesday, clearing a 40-man roster spot for Miguel Ullola. The move protects Ullola from the Rule 5 Draft while alleviating some work for the Astros prior to Friday's non-tender deadline. Urías profiled as a non-tender or trade candidate

Chas McCormick went unclaimed on outright waivers and will become a free agent, source tells @theathletic.com. McCormick has more than three years of major-league service time, which allows him to refuse an outright assignment.

I believe Chas would be a good low-cost option for a team looking to strengthen their outfield depth. However, it was time for the Astros to move on; a change of scenery was needed.

Astros right-hander Hunter Brown is one of three finalists for the American League Cy Young Award. Because Brown is PPI eligible, the Astros will receive a compensatory pick after the first round in the 2026 draft if he finishes in the top-3 of voting.

So, I am a free agent. SB Nation has relieved all of the current staff at The Crawfish Boxes, effective today.

I plan to continue writing about the Astros, but I'm unsure what that will entail at this time.

Stay tuned.

Yeah, the Astros definitely have a type.

A new voice with your hitting coaches could help, but if they don't adjust the actual roster, we'll probably see more of the same results next season.
