Draft Day’s Hidden Trap: How the Winner’s Curse Skews Teams’ Best Laid Plans
When the Orioles drafted high-school flamethrower Grayson Rodriguez with the 11th pick in 2018, they were buying a future they could only imagine. Last night, that distant bet finally came to a hea…

Taco Tuesday at the Venice & Robertson Del Taco saved my life on more than one occasion. We must take a stand.

Professional Sports Continue to Grow and Grow, While We Just Stay the Same
The only "little guy" left is us, the fans. Baseball players and athletes are making more and more money, and it's because sports teams are making more and more money. But is the average fan making more and more money at that rate? No, we've just stayed the same. But we're giving more and more money.

That's never the phrasing I see. The phrasing I see is, "Every team is capable of doing this," which is simply false.

I do not have an issue with the Dodgers doing it, and will drag the non-spending teams separately, but integrity of argument matters.

Like, you can support the Dodgers flexing their muscles without resorting to this corny line.

Ticket revenue is paltry compared too other revenue streams, anyway. TV deals, streaming, sponsorships, and real estate drive team profit way more to teams.

Even owners' own arguments in favor of a salary cap are labor-market agreements (improved competitive balance,) not consumer welfare.
January 16, 2026 at 11:33 PM
Your best hope is that the increased profits encourage management to invest into the product, not the inverse, where de-investing leads to increased affordability.
January 16, 2026 at 11:31 PM
Cost savings don't get passed on to consumers in monopolistic markets. Teams are protected by territorial rights and a unique product. Owners capture the surplus, and consumers do not benefit unless competition forces it, which it does not.
