“A more colour-blind society is, scientifically, a more racist one.

We’re not children any more. And it is silly to believe of a problem as large and as powerful as racism that, if we ignore it, it will just go away”

Are we a racist society? The majority of us say no – but science begs to differ
Although greater awareness of prejudice would suggest we are less bigoted than ever, empirical evidence indicates not

Multifunctional spaces are the future of #urban #resilience. Stormwater storage facilities that also cool neighborhoods, and offer entertainment and learning opportunities show how cities can adapt to #climate challenges while improving daily life.

As of Jan 10, the richest 1% had burned through their share of the annual global carbon budget.
In stark contrast, it would take someone from the poorest half of the global population nearly three years (1022 days) to use up their share.

Watching Al Jazeera report 2024 as the hottest year ever, I saw a WMO rep say we’re ‘starting to have to adapt.’ Starting?! Communities have been ‘having to adapt’ for decades! The real issue now: we’re facing the harsh truth of adaptation limits and loss & damage.

The climate crisis isn’t a projection. It’s happening now. Every single day there’s loss & damage somewhere in the world. Adaptation is urgent but LIMITED unless we cut our emissions.

A great article and very satisfying read by @rtbcheerful.bsky.social about the climate shelters in Barcelona. I was elated to be a guest interviewee.
Climate shelters are simple interventions though not that easy to implement equitably.

Some personal highlights from COP29 in Baku (with photos)! 🧵👇
November 28, 2024 at 4:30 PM
My reflections on #COP29 from the ground in #Baku.
1/ The #climatefinance deal: Annex 2 (wealthy) nations pledged "at least $300bn/year" for developing countries by 2035. Far from the $1.3tn/year asked by the Global South, it’s a compromise that feels deeply inadequate to those most vulnerable.
