A team including experts from IIASA and @wuvienna.bsky.social has calculated the economic impact of diabetes across 204 countries from 2020 to 2050, finding that compared to other diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or cancer, the economic impact is enormous.

Rising emissions of hydrogen have added to warming temperatures and amplified the impact of methane, one of the most potent greenhouse gases, according to new research in @nature.com. The study provides the first comprehensive accounting of hydrogen sources and sinks.

⚖️ Researchers have mapped 3 decades of income inequality data in 151 nations, finding that while income inequality is worsening for half the world’s people, effective policy may also be helping to bridge the gap in certain regions.

A valuable reflection on 10 years of the Paris Agreement IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber’s contribution was instrumental, providing the scientific foundation that helped shape the Agreement. A timely reminder of how central solid science remains for effective climate action.
