Yes. There was a lot of local history there too and most of the families were from one area so I’ve thought about rewriting with that in mind. I’m looking forward to reading your book for more inspiration.

Just saw this in the nick of time! I recently had the privilege of sorting through a friend’s late aunt’s family tree “box of stuff”, organising it for her and making a tree and some reports. It was quite emotional because of the constant question - “Who will care about this when I’m gone?”

Our last Surrey church for this visit was St Mary the Virgin at Cuddington. Two colourful 2-light windows and a large window with the central design surrounded by simple clear glass, cut to reflect the design and showing in the light, the ridges from having been blown. 3/3 #StainedGlassSunday
Two light stained glass window showing the disciples asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane. Two-light colourful stained glass window Large stained glass window depicting Christ with the cross with clear decorative glass surrounding the central image. Close up detail of the large stained glass window.

Next was Ewell. The window was probably paid for by a donor. We think they may be depicted on the window itself rather than being named. Another of LSL's Holy Spirit doves is in the upper tracery. We also found a window by Alan Younger, one of his former students/assistants. 2/3 #StainedGlassSunday
Two-light stained glass window with upper tracery lights. Stained glass window upper tracery light showing a dove as representation of the Holy Spirit. Details from a stained glass window depicting three figures kneeling and praying, one behind the other. The one at the rear appears to be a vicar, priest or monk, the one in the middle an older man with glasses, and at the front a boy of possibly teenage years. It may be that the man in the middle was the donor of this window. Stained glass window by Alan Younger, former student of LSL, with a dove in the upper tracery in a similar style to LSL's, but with a definite hallmark of Alan Younger.

Our final day in Surrey took us first to St John's Belmont. We viewed LSL's large window from the opposite balcony, standing in front of an older Victorian window which had been moved there from St Lawrence, but turned around so that the weathered masonry was now 'indoors' 1/3 #StainedGlassSunday
Large stained glass window with five main lights and tracery Detail of LSL's window depicting a dove as the Holy Spirit - one of his recurring stylised motifs. Detail from the older, more traditional Victorian window at Belmont. The ladies of the parish ran a tight ship. Picture of pews with rows of kneelers in five different tapestry designed, all aligned and organised by design.

Just gone to look and I was following the feed after all, but saw this message.
auntiep.bsky.social
I would love that! It will have to be metaphorical though 😄
auntiep.bsky.social
Oh. What were you hoping would happen? I haven't got into feeds yet. I did follow a few "starter packs" at the beginning but I'm not sure if that worked either. I still haven't got myself into #GenChat

I'm in the middle of an improvised cropped jumper. This could be the stitch for my next improv 😊 I do love it. Share your cardi when you're done 😃

I've looked at 3 articles about this and they're all dropping the word 'henge' but no pics of a henge except a Google Earth pic with a dark circle. Seems this hall was found within it but have they actually excavated the henge or is it just known to be there? Great pic but I'm now hungry for henge.

I love this stitch. I now have the urge to make something else with it. Maybe I'll be satisfied with a dishcloth tomorrow.

My friend Sascha is a professional musician and he's lost a viola bow on the way to Heathrow. Please signal boost to help him get it back.
Lost viola bow on the way from Honor Oak Station to Heathrow Terminal 2. The bow slid from its bow case somewhere along the way, possibly on the train. TFL contacted already.
It weighs 68.2 grams and has got a stamped DODD next to the frog. If any info on this, please pm me.

People who habitually whistle cheery tunes as they go about their day, I have found, are not always cheery in their interactions with people.

Finally, we saw St Lawrence, Chobham. The vicar was most informative about the church. Each pew has a different carving, and each tells a story. The pulpit was carved by teenagers in the 1800s, and the church boasts very rare ‘elbow supports’. A colourful three-light window. 4/4 #StainedGlassSunday
Three light stained glass window with very busy design depicting many scenes. Carved pew-end depicting what appears to be an ear of corn behind a dustpan and brush. Detail of the carved pulpit. Elbow supports on the ceiling of the church.

Next was St John the Baptist, Bisley, another church set away from the village - this because it had been a pilgrims' church. The vivid window was behind a noticeboard which was moved so I could take photos. LSL's window had been installed in 1983 and depicts The Lamb of God. 3/4 #StainedGlassSunday
Stained glass window depicting The Lamb of God Close up of the stained glass window shown in the previous image Detail of the stained glass window with red, yellow and white flowers against a mostly rich blue background. Detail of the stained glass window showing LSL's signature which includes the initials of his assistant, PM - Pippa Martin.

St Mary & All Saints, Dunsfold, the 13th century church was set apart from the village. Some villages were moved away during The Plague. It has a fabulous yew tree, and a fascinating exterior. The windows were simple heraldry. The oak pews are said to date from the 15thC. 2/4 #StainedGlassSunday
Two simple stained glass windows, each bearing a heraldic device. Photograph of the ends of rows of church pews, showing the texture of the old wood. Exterior church wall sowing galleting in the mortar whereby pieces of flint are insterted into it. It is thought that much of this is Victorian restoration. A yew tree in a churchyard
