Mostly beers 🍻 and books 📚
Oat Cream IPA from Maltnhops, in NSW. Less opaque than I expect from an out cream, but I still get that characteristic thickness. Not bad!

A coming-of-age / love story set in 1970s Sydney is definitely not my normal fare, I read it for a book club.

But I loved it, so glad I gave it the chance.

At different stages laugh out loud funny, tense, and really sad. Highly recommend.

A long overdue visit to the local, Seasonal Brewing, for some paddles. Heavy on sour and gose beers in preparation for summer, despite the fact it's currently chilly and damp.

Hmmm... after the debacle of Khawaja's injury and its impact on the batting order, and Head's performance today, do we have a new opening combination for the 2nd test?

Found an autographed copy of Glenn McGrath's memoir at the 2nd hand book store.

I usually enjoy these stories, but was disappointed this time. The promotion of quack health remedies throughout especially bothered me.

Just finished The Outsider by @stephenking.bsky.social, whose books I've been diving back into.

Reminiscent of The Dark Half (maybe my favourite King book) early, this turned into a more complex and interesting story as it went on. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

@reneecatullo.bsky.social and I tried a barrel aged imperial stout brewed, and generously supplied by @mikebrightwood.bsky.social.

It's the beer we'd all like to make as homebrewers, but few manage. Great nose, lots of vanilla and bourbon on the tongue. Paired with a self-saucing pudding.

Happy Friday...

A fruited lager is unusual, but the blood orange in this makes it far more interesting. From Seasonal Brewing, just down the road.

I'm lucky enough to have the time and space to turn a spare bedroom into a library... which, now finished, is obviously my favourite room.

Though it does feel like I need more books.

If your bookcases are more full than mine, please show me!

I tried, I really tried. But I couldn't get through this.

Some were some more readable segments, like a discussion of thw value of science education. But overall, is wasn't a book for the occasional reader of philosophy like me.

The warm weather is here, the lawn is looking fantastic, it's time for beers on the porch while I water.

This very pale ale is really nice. A bit of a throwback to a few years ago when everything was hop forward, but I'm here for it.

A delightful hazy from Badlands. Great balance of fruit and bitterness.

A classic red IPA from Badlands. That great combination of big caramel malt flavours, with the lingering bitterness, that makes me love this style.

A fantastic collection.

I may not always agree with his opinions, but I'm always provoked into thought by his art.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would... it was certainly the only way I'd get through Pride and Prejudice!

The addition of the occasional zombie attack or savage beating to the original book made me laugh out loud more than once.

Haven't seen a Scotch ale in a very long time, so this was a welcome surprise. A very steady, sessionable, tasty version of the style. Could drink a lot of these.

From Badlands, in Orange, New South Wales.

A great, classic hazy. Great balance between sweetness and hops, and nice thick mouthfeel.

Though I do wish these big 8% beers came in smaller cans!

Conspiracy theories, weird beliefs, and the resistance to changing one's mind fascinates me.

So I may be a little biased, but I thoroughly enjoyed this exploration of modern Australian conspiracy theories.

A history with a focus on the Middle East and Central Asia, and the flow of money, goods, ideas, people, and conflict over time.

Very interesting. This filled in some gaps for me that other histories gloss over.

A delicious dark lager from Evil Mega Crop, full of coffee, cacao, and booze (at 8.8%)

Hmmm, didn't enjoy this, even for a cold IPA. In a blind taste test if you'd told me I was drinking a lager, I think I would have believed you.

The rest of their beers have been good though, so I still like these guys.

A chocolate orange stout from Phat Brew Club. Classic combination of flavours, this works really well.

A little bland, even for a lager. But I have to agree, West is best!
