they call their product “the Greendale Human Being”

i got a profile with the hottest AI startup that was, remarkably, spun out of Greendale Community College, after the announcement of their new logo.
A bald man wearing glasses, a striped shirt, and a tie is holding a blue sign that reads “GREENDALE” at the top. The sign features a pink circle with a black asterisk-like symbol in the center and the words “E PLURIBUS ANUS” around it. The image is from the TV show Community, featuring the character Dean Pelton.

still crazy to me that there is like zero discourse about the TikTok ban coming Saturday.

the web was always meant to be a living thing. the only problem is that living things also die.

this was the best era of iTunes
A man wearing glasses and a maroon shirt is presenting at a technology event. On a large screen behind him, the interface of Apple’s iTunes software is displayed. The iTunes window shows the album “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” by Bruno Mars, with a tracklist on the left and related music recommendations on the right. The interface features the album’s cover art, top songs, top albums, and a section titled “Listeners Also Bought.” The visual presentation highlights the media library and purchasing features of iTunes.

any pointers to places where threat modeling is happening?

iirc, core Bluesky design goals are (1) composable moderation (2) global feed, and (3) portable data/accounts.

(2) seems to be the unique thing culturally!

on the how that underlies the what:

i will say — my big takeaway from ATmosphere was a fascination with the community’s interest in the Big Thing.

#ATmosphereConf folks & broader community — i’m curious about the best takes from the #ATProtocol side of the fence concerning Christine Lemmer-Webber’s thesis that relays are a structural liability when it comes to decentralization.

on the other hand, Google Search was actually displaying copied photos. is it meaningful that the AI industry isn’t?

he is saying that the slow motion look changes my perception of what that point is, and i disagree.

i am asking him to prove me wrong here! how does slow motion affect the "reality of the moment", as he puts it?
austinha.bsky.social
if so, you must agree that there is a point at which it becomes unrealistic to call something an "attempt to play".

the question, which he and i disagree on, is what that point is.

for those that are seeing jeff’s replies here: consider this –

i’m asking how it changes the nature of his attempt.

for example, if Sharangovich was waving his stick in the air while looking at the puck from the far hash mark, would you say that he is making an "attempt" at the play?

no?

sorry, to be clear: i’m asking how it changes the nature of his attempt.

for example, if Sharangovich was waving his stick in the air while looking at the puck from the far hash mark, would you say that he is making an "attempt" at the play?

no?

curious: is incidental contact limited to stick-on-goalie?
austinha.bsky.social
how did it change the reality of this moment?

finally, curious about how Schwartz’s goal could be considered different. there is a rebound, both players are attempting to play the puck, Schwartz wins the battle, and nets it.
austinha.bsky.social
if you *do* consider this an “attempt” on a loose puck, then i’m not sure what the goalie interference call is for. joey makes this save if his stick is not lifted, or if he is not moved out of the way when his glove is pushed.
austinha.bsky.social
another angle showing how far behind the puck is.
austinha.bsky.social
not sure how you can faithfully say Sharangovich is attempting to play the puck here. he’s a yard in front of it and makes direct contact with Joey’s stick (and then glove). he’s nowhere near to making a play on the puck, so it would be miraculous to call this an attempt, in my opinion.
