Spotlighting @yolandasfetsos today A writer bringing bleak small-town mystery, folk horror, and cursed-family tension to life with real force.

Congratulations!

Despite the book’s brilliance, Baldwin struggled to find editors who believed in a young Black, queer writer telling such a raw American story.

He wrote anyway, and changed literature forever.

Baldwin later admitted he carried that book inside him so long that “it had to come out all at once.”

Sometimes the story isn’t written, it breaks free.

James Baldwin wrote the first draft of Go Tell It on the Mountain in three fevered days at age 24.

He said it felt less like writing a novel and more like “an eruption.”

When a debate devolves in to re-defining words you are no longer debating a subject you are debating reality. Words matter, they have meaning and are fundamental to our understanding of our world and each other.

Drop the name of a BIPOC author or small press you believe more readers must know right now.

Let’s build a living discovery list that doesn’t wait for permission.

The publishing world still treats many BIPOC writers as “trends” instead of cornerstones.

Their work isn’t a moment. It’s a foundation. It’s not a trend, it’s making up for missed opportunities.

If you’re serious about discovering new voices, you can’t keep reading only what the industry already made safe for you.

Risk lives in the margins, and that’s where many BIPOC authors are still writing.

Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck is a reminder that sometimes the best way to understand a country is to leave your expectations behind and just listen.

Roads, strangers, doubt, and wonder all tangled together in one quiet American journey.

I did the same with my memoir, only I put it the voice and listen to the entire thing. I cried. It’s quite interesting what you said, by the way. When you read, do you hear your own voice in your head, or someone else’s?
My own! Mostly because I'm re-reading my final draft for my upcoming debut novel The Nexus Prince. So it is totally like hearing my own voice.
