The fleet as it currently stands. It’s a constant battle to keep these on the road, but it’s gratifying after every repair to think the car is just a bit improved compared to before. Along with the rarity of some of these, it’s the challenge which becomes the thrill of the chase and all worthwhile.
The 1986 Grand Detroit FC from Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Six were built from a Chrysler LeBaron front, and a Dodge 600 rear and interior. The TC wood trim was added by the studio. Chrysler refused their emblems to be used on the cars. 501 ‘86 factory Chrysler LeBaron TCs were built but not used.

Jaguar’s upcoming I-Type GT is likely to be far sleeker than the Type 00 concept it unveiled with its advertising campaign. Repositioning themselves as an exclusive super-saloon manufacturer I think is a wise move to finally shake off the poor reliability image which it’s carried since the 1970s.

Peter Monteverdi established his boutique car manufacturing business in Basel in 1967. He built a variety of bizarre machines, often using Chrysler V8s. The Tiara was his final car, a modified Mercedes W126 notably using Peugeot 505 taillights. Only three were built before operations ceased in 1982.

$4,400 and a whole hill of repairs later, the Volkswagen Cabriolet is back.

If you haven’t seen it already, Martin’s channel “Grand Thrift Auto” is a must-see. He has one of the most interesting collections of cars on YouTube (almost everything he has I have in Corgi form) and his restoration skills are brilliant. He deserves to be in the big time. youtu.be/pCv2B30tOeE?...

The list of jobs never gets smaller. Tonight’s eBay trawl will be to source a new tailgate seal for the Le Mans.

Minor jobs around the barn, including finding my plastic tools to prize off the BMW’s badge, and inflating tyres. The VW returns shortly. The outlook for December is much colder and potentially snowy, so I’m just going to start winterising this lot now. The BMW’s ignition switch is toast … again.

This 300,000 mile 2004 Pontiac Vibe is used for Wal-Mart delivery runs by its owner. His wife also owns a Vibe. These shared the platform with the Toyota Matrix and the Corolla, and powered by a 1.8 litre Toyota VVT engine.

They were built at the former NUMMI plant in California.

This forlorn Austin Mini Special was built for the 20th anniversary in 1979. Austin took a Mini 1000, added the Clubman’s 1100cc engine, the instrument binnacle and console of a 1275GT, alloy wheels, vinyl roof, and silver or rose metallic paint. This one has been parked up for the past ten years.

The 1966 FNM Onça coupe was a variant of the FNM 2000 sedan - an Alfa Romeo 2000 built under licence in Brazil - built for several years until Alfa bought FNM in 1968. The coupe was FNM’s own work, however, albeit heavily influenced by the Ford Mustang.

TBT: a very late and only lightly disguised second-generation Chevrolet Volt prototype I snapped at a gas station in Pennsylvania in 2016. The driver told me it was undergoing some final miscellaneous testing before release, which was a month later.

The Jeep Recon is the latest product on the STLA large platform. It uses two electric motors as standard, generating 650hp but only good for a lowly 250 miles of range. Impressive trail-rated EV in almost every other respect.

As winter approaches, I’ll be filming a number of cherished car collections and interviewing their owners for AutoAtlantica. It’s one of my favourite aspects of the channel. This incredible Nissan Silvia from the mid-sixties is a taste of what you can expect.

The worst aspect of social media are the losers who egregiously troll others. Facebook in particular is horrific for this, especially in the groups where admins are more interested in member numbers than member integrity.
