Office archaeology: the first computing device I bought with my own money, working at a computer store in high school. It still works, after giving it new batteries. Somewhere I should still have the card reader and barcode reader accessories for it.

So very much this. Forget measuring "how long does it take to write code to do a thing?"--that's not the bulk of time and effort in the development cycle. How long does it take to build and ship a reliable, functional product? Most of that time isn't spend on coding.

The “problem” with vaccines? They so effective at preventing deaths that they create generations of people that question whether disease was a problem in the first place because they have never experienced the horrors of a world without vaccines.
