In one sense, yes, I am writing a book about anthropocentrism in early modern England for Routledge and here for scholarly vibes but in a real & much more accurate sense I yearn for silliness.

Animal writing fans will see this and think "hell yeah"
Being a journalist is sick: I just contacted a pre-eminent jaguar conservationist in Argentine with a question that has been weighing on me for ages and he wrote back right away with an informed answer.

While the terrifying Pomeranian has you here...

Looking for anyone who's had a successful #MSCA postdoc fellowship who'd be willing to share an application with me.

Please RT and/or share if you know someone who could help.

More Lady Anne Southwell drip feed (from meditation on the 8th commandment):

Methinks my neighbour’s dog that barks at me/And his own tongue that doggedly doth rail/Is all alike, I can no difference see -/Both with confused noises my ears assail”

See, what happens when you're not in academia circles full time and out of the loop is that you miss cfps for conferences like this which look sick AF & you literally have work on nonhuman resistance and (in)justice in the book project

Positively frothing with FOMO 😭 looks incredible!

Saw #Hamnet last night and I know you will all be relieved to know it has a properly decent number of #earlymodern animals in it so on that basis it's a paws/hooves/talons up from me.

Love an accident of early modern spelling, which on the final line has given way to a pun so drippily acidic that modern English could only dream of it

The whole point of being an academic is that you need to be willing to spend three days creating a 700-word footnote that you will later delete. And you need to LIKE IT.

Back to my chapter on Gascoigne & let me get a tea towel for I am once again drooling over the sexy, sexy type of the 1561 edition of Du Fouilloux's La Vénerie:

Today is #WorldSoilDay and I am thinking about that EM gardening text I read which said burying onions and garlic would keep moles away.

In reality, of course, the moles were likely underground making bolognese with the ingredients delivered to their door.

Neither an early modern animal nor a writer but "a real handsome man" is absolutely sending me today. Howling.
