Slowly getting there ... very slowly!

It's a really fun race game, fortunes can change on the roll of a die. I made my own copy of the board in the BM 😁

A few years back I was lucky to see two Lancasters (🇬🇧+🇨🇦) fly over my parents house at around 500 feet (150 m). Eight Merlin engines roaring at full power certainly made my breathing stop!

Dangerous work, those lenses seem quite exposed

Cuevas de la Araña Paintings in Valencia, Spain show that man has long had a taste for honey - going to elaborate lengths to "steal" honey from the bees from early times!

I wish I'd known about this place a few years ago when I stayed in Katwijk. Looks amazing, must get back there!

For #EpigraphyTuesday a wooden barrel found in a well in the #Roman settlement at Aalen with the name GAIVS COTTIVS FLORENTINVS branded in, probably the merchant or owner of the barrel. Barrels were used for the transport and the storage of wine. This one...🧵1/2

This is a close-up view of the wooden barrel, showing an engraved stamp on the wooden surface. The letters are partially visible and slightly faded due to age. A large, weathered wooden barrel with visible wood grain and several signs of age, such as worn, cracked, and uneven planks, displayed upright in a glass museum case. The barrel appears structurally intact but shows significant wear and damage, with broken or missing sections at the top and bottom edges.

Goodness me, having to hide out in the polar bear enclosure! A wonderful work of art and a fine tribute

I can't put into words how much I truly love these two 12th century characters.
Look kids, they're waving at us!
Centuries of time between us and the doodler vanish and I find myself waving at the screen like an eejit.
THEY ARE SO CUTE.

An elaborately decorated early #medieval double-sided bone comb, found in a warrior's grave in Fridingen (dating early 7th century AD). To protect the delicate tines, the comb was kept in a case.
Long and well-groomed hair was a status symbol.

On display at Landesmuseum Württemberg

An ornately decorated bone comb with a case, displayed against a dark background. The comb features finely carved teeth, some of which are damaged or missing, and intricate geometric and circular patterns etched into the surface. The case has similar engraved designs and is held together with small metal rivets, showing signs of wear and age
