The book got a little messy late, but Cubs win 6-0 to even this NLDS up, 2-2. Back to Milwaukee.

Kyle Tucker has had a nice night for the Cubs: two walks, a solo shot in the 7th and now a single in the 8th. Michael Busch also stays scorching, belting a homer in the 8th (his 3rd of the NLDS and 4th in the playoffs).
bastianmlb.bsky.social
Matt Shaw was 0-for-12 in playoffs coming into tonight. He reached via an infield single in the 2nd to snap that drought. Walked in 5th. And here in 6th Shaw delivers an RBI single to center to put Cubs up 4-0 on the Brewers.

It's only the 3rd run the Cubs have scored in Innings 2-9 this series.

Another good one from @slangsonsports.bsky.social:

Scoreless start facing elimination, Cubs postseason history:

2025 NLDS G4 Matthew Boyd (4 2/3 IP)
2025 NLWCS G3 Jameson Taillon (4)
2015 NLWCG Jake Arrieta (SHO)
1935 WS G5 Lon Warneke (6)
1918 WS G5 Hippo Vaughn (SHO)

Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner has two hits in three at-bats tonight so far, giving him a .423 (11-for-26) average in his first career postseason to date.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
Nico Hoerner has at least one hit in all of the Cubs' playoff games to far. His 7-game hitting streak to begin a postseason career with the Cubs is the longest since Ryne Sandberg had a 10-game streak between 1984-89.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
Happ entered the playoffs with a 2-for-32 career showing off Freddy Peralta. In this series, he is now 2-for-4 with a pair of homers off the Brewers ace.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
Per @slangsonsports.bsky.social: The 21 combined runs in the first inning in the Cubs/Brewers NLDS are three more than in the first innings of any other series in postseason history.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
And now the old yard is shaking after Ian Happ belts a 3-run homer to get the Cubs' offense rolling.

Chicago has now scored 11 of its 13 runs in this series in the first inning.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
The Wrigley Field crowd is giving Peralta loud, exaggerated "FREDDDDY!" chants as he works in the first inning.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
This is the only series in playoff history in which both teams scored in the first inning in each of the first three games. That streak ended here in Game 4.

Matthew Boyd -- charged with six runs (two earned) in the first inning in Game 1 -- got through the top of the first unscathed on 13 pitches.

“It felt right. I wish the ivy would turn. We probably need another week of cold weather or so. It feels like what it should be, for sure.” —Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner, on the October chill arriving for postseason games at Wrigley this week

NLDS Game 4 coming soon…
bastianmlb.bsky.social
“I know what I’m going to do when the ball is in my hand,” Boyd said on Wednesday night. “And when that time comes tomorrow, I’ll be ready. I know what I’m going to do. I’m going to go compete and leave it all out there on the field."

Cubs announce that lefty Matthew Boyd will start Game 4 at Wrigley tonight.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
Cubs hold on to beat Brewers, 4-3, keeping their season alive. Game 4 of the NLDS on-deck Thursday at Wrigley.

Seiya Suzuki's 117.3-mph double in 3rd inning is the 3rd-hardest-hit ball (regular season or playoffs) in Statcast Era (since 2015) for the Cubs. Only Kyle Schwarber has hit any harder (117.6 and 117.4 mph, both in 2019).
bastianmlb.bsky.social
The Cubs entered today with an MLB-record streak of 13 straight playoff games with 3 or fewer runs scored, dating back to 2017. The four-spot in the first inning put an end to that.
bastianmlb.bsky.social
The first inning in the NLDS...

Game 1: Cubs 1, Brewers 6
Game 2: Cubs 3, Brewers 3
Game 3: Brewers 1, Cubs 4

To quote @adammccalvy.bsky.social: Sweet sassy molassy!
bastianmlb.bsky.social
Pete Crow-Armstrong ends Priester's day at 39 pitches, 7 batters and only two outs recorded with a 2-run single into right field.

Cubs up 3-1, and the press box is swaying a little as the fans in the upper deck rock the old place.

Echoing Meghan here, the rulebook has "ordinary effort" right in the first sentence: www.mlb.com/news/major-l...

I understand why Cubs fans might be ticked an infield fly wasn't called on it but the ball was in no mans land and not routine, Busch immediately indicated to Hoerner he couldn't see the ball and no one else was close to catching it
dstrickland621.bsky.social
I’m still pissed that it wasn’t called an infield fly. 100% of balls that have ever landed in the grass on the infield have been called infield fly balls.
Shaw and Swanson would have been standing on 3rd and 2nd if it had been called
bastianmlb.bsky.social
Michael Busch went deep to open the first inning, as he did in Game 1, to knot Game 3, 1-1.

Per @slangsonsports.bsky.social: Busch is the first player to hit multiple leadoff home runs in the same series in a single postseason.

Some scenes around Wrigley ahead of Game 3.

And got a pic with Chef Tee over at Cozy Noodles! My favorite spot in Wrigleyville to grab some food. He’s also a fellow marathoner (way faster than me!).
