I sometimes muse about the savage job-destroying nature of the open source community: hundreds of thousands of developers working tirelessly to unemploy as many of their peers as possible by giving away the code they've written for free.

My site now has a search feature! You can also filter by region or theme to narrow results.

Technical details: this is a Pagefind implementation, completely static, using the astro-pagefind integration. Overriding parts of the default UI with Tailwind feels like a bit of a kludge but hey, it works.

* The appeal of static sites
* @protomaps.com vs. OSM
* Dynamics + biz of FOSS vs. SaaS
* Thinking about "finishing" projects

I talked to @bdon.org about self hosting static maps with @protomaps.com!

He mentioned open source maintainers usually only hear complaints from their users 😣

If someone's project helped you build something let them know!

This week, I'm working on creating dynamic Open Graph images for various parts of allmaps.org. The first is for latest.allmaps.org, a small website that shows the last 250 maps georeferenced with Allmaps.
