And is that all our society/culture is about now? “Productive industries"? Is artistic activity not productive, not of any worth?

(I’m not going to waste time reading the news item and this is just my micro-rant on the overall cultural theme. 😉)

Is that the same performing arts which is one of the UK's most productive industries?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Sgt Basil Whall of 602 Squadron was hit by return fire from a Junkers 88 off Beachy Head. Unable to nurse his damaged Spitfire back to base at Westhampnett, he crashed attempting a forced landing near Alfriston and died shortly afterwards in hospital.

That cat is an eccentric menace.

Slightly off-topic, but I always highly recommend this Web site re UK wildlife. You might well enjoy it too (or maybe you already know it of course). It has well researched articles and sensible commentary.

Avian police would like to interview this cat that was seen here two days ago.

“What..?”
A black cat with a white feather stuck to its face. Somehow. Maybe the wind blew it there. Yes.

Some corvids seem surprisingly unwary around foxes. If a fox is eating, magpies (admittedly, especially bold corvids) will try to join in. Once I did see a fox take advantage of the complacency, snatch a magpie and carry it off. The local magpies were shocked and lamented for an hour afterwards.

I wouldn’t presume in your case but from my observations (& reading), in UK, a cat will nearly always be responsible for abandoned or partly chewed kill. If it’s small and moves, they will hunt it! Foxes don’t like to waste energy, so will kill only to eat (or maybe cache for later), not for play.

Are you trying to make Chris Packham eat crow?

But seriously folks…

Why do you suspect it was a fox that killed the crow? Any fox that had made the effort to hunt it would have carried it off. Heck, even most cats would (and they are, from what I have seen, *much* more likely to be the culprits).

I promise not to ask too often, but if you could help Small Son and I raise funds for The Miscarriage Association we'd really appreciate it.

We are going to be doing a sponsored walk on the 12 October and all donations are very welcome via our fundraising page.

We missed this, but our show of poetry and other readings from literature, ‘Book Drop’ (now in its fifth year) might well feature this poem some time…

“… Choose ye your need from Thames to Tweed,
And I will choose instead
Such lands as lie ’twixt Rake and Rye,
Black Down and Beachy Head.…”
