Make sure you’ve got Mark Rosewater on hand to keep an eye out for extra Blooms. :)

Not really a huge Commander guy, and consequently generally stick to Precons. The decks I’m in the progress of building are in the Bracket 1 or 2 zones: so being thematic is key. I don’t see myself crossing the streams in future: it’s either going to be all Beyond cards (of one type) or none.

Every found yourself awake late at night, desperately trying to remember who the third best Canadian Magic: the Gathering player was in 1999? Me too. Fortunately now there’s an easy solution to all your nocturnal Canadian Nats questions: mtg.wiki/page/Canadia.... (It was Jürgen Hahn, obviously)
Canadian National Championships
National Championship tournaments were held annually in Canada from 1995 through to 2011, then again in 2017 and 2018.[1][2] The winner of these events was named Canadian Champion. Tha...

Getting a bit ahead of myself in poster stakes, but when inspiration hits… love for some more cats in Australia, Japan, Philippines etc to join us. Got a pretty cool group of people regularly jamming some premodern together!
beatsandskies.bsky.social
Hey: someone has got to jump in and do what WoTC themselves should be doing themselves!

But if anyone else is keen to get stuck in on the wiki, for old Pro Tour History or whatever, then just reach out. Happy to answer questions, share some templates, assign some homework… whatever. :)

*finished is probably not something which can be said of a wiki, but I’ve established a pretty good framework I think and it’d be cool to see what stuff others can build off it. (It’d be pretty cool to see a summary of some of the finals matches for instance: I’ve decided to leave this myself.)
beatsandskies.bsky.social
Alright. I think I’ve finished* my latest project on @mtgwiki.bsky.social. Or at least, until I can track down InQuest 22 which I’m sure should have some of the decklists I couldn’t find through other sources. Next up: LA ‘97 with the infamous David Mills DQ!
1996 Pro Tour Dallas
The second Pro Tour event in the 1996-97 season was held in Dallas, Texas, from 22–24 November 1996. The main event was Standard constructed and was won by Canadian Paul McCabe in his first Masters Di...

Wait: how are they blaming this on the Democrats when they (apparently) control both houses?

Americans need to get a proper political system already, rather than just going for the most confusing and nonsensical option possible.

Now is a pretty awesome time, for sure, but nothing will ever beat that first year. Back when we didn’t know what we were doing. Buying a new precon or a couple boosters with my paper run money, or trawling for gems in the 10c bulk bin. 6+ player FFA games at lunchtime in the school library.

@wotc-news.bsky.social really should have brought Nick out to the con to be the secret endboss of the fish event! Now that’d have been cool.
beatsandskies.bsky.social
If anyone has enough spare pingers and can manage to get through to get one of these… maybe chuck a second copy in the cart just to make sure the Man gets one too. Xoxoxo
magicstorytime.bsky.social
I’ve not seen the full Dandan Secret Lair. I don’t really care if I get credit or anything from it. Rhystic Studies and informed players know its origins. I just hope I’ll be able to own a copy of the official release and not have them sell out to scalpers and stuff like I’ve heard can be a problem.

Because I’m a huge fan of old white bordered Magic cards, obviously I chose to recreate the 2001 Deckmasters: Finkel vs Garfield duel decks with original Ice Age and Alliances printings. Clearly Garfield, channelling his inner Olle Råde, is the pick of the two. (I think Finkel crushed him though.)
beatsandskies.bsky.social
I’ve been having a bit of a whinge about the weird decision to combine full art borderless cards with retro reprints, but arguably this is an even more jarring problem with the set. That and the fact that it’s Secret Lair will mean it’s too expensive and hard for people to get hold of.
beatsandskies.bsky.social
To be fair… he does like the word.
beatsandskies.bsky.social
I guess since I’m going hard on Bluesky posting… Back when LTR dropped I designed a bunch of thematic 60 card casual decks. Maybe by the time the newly announced Hobbit set drops I’ll have finished building them! This is “Cirith Ungol”: finally pulled the trigger on Mithril Coat. (Store credit!)
beatsandskies.bsky.social
This arguably is true of all secret lairs tbh. But agreed.

In other bullshit, this: I’d have thought with how WoTC had been handling more grassroots popularised formats recently with the Commander & Pauper panels — ie, better than they might otherwise — they’d actually have flown Nick in to consult. To work on a new “official” decklist together, even. Sad.
magicstorytime.bsky.social
Yeah, at this point I expect they won’t even acknowledge me.
beatsandskies.bsky.social
This plonker doesn’t speak for Aotearoa NZ. Well, actually he does. Which is a huge fucking problem. But in reality he doesn’t. From the river to the sea, no more of this hypocrisy. Fuck Zionism, Fuck Militarism, Fuck Americanism, Fuck Nationalism, Fuck Religion. 🇵🇸✊☮️⭐️
beatsandskies.bsky.social
Strange choice here. Going full retro for this = good idea. Having cool new art in borderless frames = good idea. But mixing the two feels worse somehow than just doing one of them. Standard M15 frames would mesh much better with the full art cards imo.
beatsandskies.bsky.social
That Armageddon is pretty cool, though, if you’re into the borderless style of card.
beatsandskies.bsky.social
This is your sign? I thought every Premoderner was already at this point? ;)

Seriously, though, a couple people at my LGS are really trying to push Pauper and I’ve had fun at a couple of events I’ve made it to, but the UB cards and pushed “downshifts” make me very wary of getting into it fully.

Well, the Marvel one can safely be ignored, so that takes us down to 6 sets. It’s likely the mystery UN set will be something rubbish as well, so that’s another one down. Fracture has something to do with Jace and Loot so high possibility that will be OTJ level nonsense… and so on.
