Thank you Rep. @raskin.house.gov for your resolution on the House floor recognizing #BannedBooksWeek!

We're grateful for the support of library champions in Congress who are showing up for libraries, library workers, and intellectual freedom.

Full resolution: raskin.house.gov/_cache/files...
Resolution: Expressing concern about the spreading problem of book
banning and the proliferation of threats to freedom of
expression in the United States.
Whereas the overwhelming majority of voters in the United
States oppose book bans;
Whereas an overwhelming majority of voters in the United
States support educators teaching about the civil rights
movement, the history and experiences of Native Americans, enslaved Africans, immigrants facing discrimination, and the ongoing effects of racism;
Whereas an overwhelming majority of Americans are confident that their community’s public schools select appropriate books for students to read;

How to be an informed, pro-library, anti-book ban voter in upcoming fall elections (if you have them) and well into the future.

Don't just celebrate banned books. Don't just read banned books. VOTE to support the democratic institutions creating access to them.

THE LIBRARIANS @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social is a *must-see.*

Thanks to @ifla.org Met Lib for the private screening at Toronto Reference Library.

Terrifying, deeply moving. I know several of the librarians & recognized books by many #KidLit #YALit friends. 😢

A large screen beside them displays a slide that reads, “America’s war on books is more than a war on words. THE LIBRARIANS. Directed by Kim A. Has your library curtailed or outright banned anything related to Banned Books Week this year? I'm not talking that you're doing something else (i.e., freedom to read week). I'm talking YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING related to the topic.

Tell me about it anonymously --> tinyurl.com/banning-bbw25

**NEW**

Today, the ACLU of South Carolina filed a lawsuit on behalf of public school students and school librarians. They're challenging the constitutionality of the state's book banning law and a memo outlining the state's content censorship policy.

The book banning of Indigenous stories in libraries has impacts on readers| Removal of their stories continues the erasure of histories and contributions of Native Nations and their citizens

OPINION: Banning books erases Native voices and experiences
Book banning is not new. A small minority seeking to decide and limit what the majority can access and read has existed for millennia.

Censorship is so 1984. Read for your rights.

Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, and this year's theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights.

It's officially the start of #BannedBooksWeek!

How are you observing the week? #BTS' RM is reading a book by Patrick Süskind, an author whose work has been banned.
