Libraries exist for people who can't afford to buy books. They're there for the public good. Support your local library. Borrow books.

Maybe not a classic Christmas gift but an “extraordinary” one. It could:

-change a GC mind
-bring a parent and child closer
-even reconnect them
-encourage a trans person to come out to a parent
-or seek safety abroad

These things have happened. Readers have told me.

What better gift to give?

A warm welcome back today to GP Kirsty Shires, who's here today to talk with me about Jacqueline Harpman's 1995 novel, I Who Have Never Known Men.
This is an absolutely astonishing book. It is dystopian fiction at its best with so much to think about.

Not quite the “lap full of kittens” from my podcast intro as beautiful Tilly is 19!!! I do rate snuggled with a blanket a book and a cat as one of the best ways to spend an afternoon though.

Quiet month for reading but done absolutely incredible books in there including “The Names” which I think might well be my top fiction read of 2025

It is a huge pleasure today to welcome doctor and writer, Majid Parsa. We're talking about The Ayatollah's Gaze: a memoir of the forbidden and the fabulous, which is his first boook. What a book and what a memoir it is. I absolutely loved it.

It's a real treat today to welcome @emmajourno.bsky.social to the podcast to discuss her book Ultra Women.

We've got wonderful stories. We've got sociology. We've got history. We've got physiology. We've got a good dose of "invisible women" in there as well.

Not going to lie, this book made me very cross in places. Made me think a lot too…

Overdiagnosis is a bit of a hot topic lately, but as I hope we manage to explore, keeping curiosity and compassion at the forefront of what we do are much more important than making soundbite proclamations.
