I understand that 2 factor authorization using a mobile device helps companies track user IDs, but it also discriminates against the poor who might be using wifi only on a public service. There should always be a non-SMS option. SMS messages are not available to 100% of the people 100% of the time.

I stole this from @connorratliff.bsky.social . He did it on Twitter and it was too good not to drag it over here.

It definitely says something about my place in time that I have a water bill, an electricity bill, a #streaming bill and now an #AI bill. I feel like sooner or later someone is coming with a #simulation bill.

Hot take: AI assistants are boring because they have zero personality. 🤖

We've wanted movie-like AI interfaces forever, but current LLMs are like talking to a polite fence post. Where's the wit of K-2SO or R2-D2's sass?

Maybe it’s not what #Putin had on #Trump that makes Trump behave the way he does… it’s just that Putin was the last autocrat with the manual and he’s only been loaning it to Trump one page at a time.

OpenAI once promised to serve the public good—but it’s soon to be a data-mining, ad-serving silicon valley tech giant transforming your conversations into their profit. If you think ChatGPT is here to help, it’s time to start asking what master it really serves.

Why are we inventing artificial intelligence when we could be inventing artificial cockroaches that will take over from the real cockroaches that survive the nuclear war and then the artificial cockroaches bring us back from extinction? #artificialcockroaches

I asked Claude to draw up some technical illustrations of a Bell telephone from 1972. I just don't get it. I followed the instructions exactly. #telephone #aidesign

The Agentic Web - AI may be generating a lot of slop right now, but it's reasonable to think that agents will be incentivized to do some cleaning, too. open.substack.com/pub/banapana...
The Agentic Web
AI may be generating a lot of slop right now, but it stands to reason that it will clean the web up also.

I just discovered this, so I thought I would spread it around. (Maybe everyone but me knows this?) When you are checking data usage on your iPhone in the System Settings (see Current Period below) that number does not automatically reset monthly.

I love finding products that have novel hardware features that maybe could be replicated on the smartphone platform, but don't. Totem Labs (www.totemlabs.com) has accomplished just that. I wrote more about it over on my Substack...

HA! I'm looking at benefits of coding with more #syntacticsugar when #pairedprogramming with #AI, and ChatGPT said: "If an AI is advanced enough, it may prefer more sugar: it can compress code more elegantly and make transformations more fluidly, just like how humans prefer speaking in idioms."

Did you know that the majority of things we humans have sent to the moon (#probes, #robots, people) have crashed? This is in part because landing on the #moon is difficult since the moon's gravity is lumpy. It's also amusing to think that we have littered the moon.
