As a former teacher, I love getting to visit schools as an MP. Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of visiting students at Ralph Maybank School and Harrow School to help them celebrate I Love to Read Month.

We discussed the issues that matter to Edmontonians, Winnipeggers, and all residents of Canada's Prairie provinces, as well as the importance of national unity at this time of global rupture.

Today is the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia. We honour the memory of the six Muslim Canadians who were killed and the 19 others who were injured in the 2017 terrorist attack in Québec in Sainte-Foy.

As Flag Day approaches, the Government of Canada has launched the Community Flag Bearers Contest to recognize community members who bring to life the values embodies by the Canadian Flag. Nominees are being accepted from now until February 15.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It honours the memory of the 6 million Jews and many others murdered by the Nazis. It also marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Allied forces in 1945.

It has been a difficult week for them and the broader community following several antisemitic attacks.

Today is the 6th anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752, a tragedy that claimed 176 lives, including 8 members from Winnipeg’s Iranian community. My thoughts today are with the victims’ families and loved ones, who continue to bear the weight of this loss.
