I was grateful to spend time with Layla, a young high school leader, alongside other members of the community at Winnipeg’s Black History Month kick-off event at City Hall in Winnipeg.

On Monday evening I joined colleagues and community members at a ceremony to commemorate the victims and stand firm against Islamophobia and hate of all kinds.

It was a powerful ceremony this morning in Ottawa alongside the Prime Minister and colleagues from across the aisle.

Over the past several years in Canada, including very close to home for me and my constituents, we have seen a dangerous increase in violent, hateful acts that are targeted directly at Jews in Canada. We need all Canadians to speak up - not just Jews.

The pain of the tragedy will never go away. I am very proud that the only permanent memorial to the victims of Flight PS752 in the world is located in my riding of Winnipeg South Centre. The site offers a place for reflection, remembrance, and resistance.
