FFS. How could they be coming up with even worse policies? This is the bottom now right? Right!?

I would argue the games industry is pretty disrupted right now without AI. I'm not sure AI gets us the same sort of disruption that 3D brought to games (which was an exciting one to me anyway). What sort of disruption do you think would be for the better?

Behold!
Curse of Cards has a minimap now.

It's inspired by Metroid Prime's lovely little isometric display (with an added bit of perspective so you don't randomly go cross-eyed while staring at it).

I'm trying free movement instead of grid-based for Curse of Cards.
Whaddya reckon?

Pros: Better interaction with water and foliage; less disorientating; rooms can be any shape.

Cons: You lose the vibe.

Time and space are inextricably linked in Curse of Cards' Amber Archives...
Here's some exploration and card match gameplay.

Also, also, have some early music from Ben Wolland, the game's composer!

Thanks @joakimenigksjoberg.bsky.social this was interesting. I'm yet to play split fiction but my wife and i have enjoyed it takes two a lot. Great sounding game.

yeah, my kids like to watch something called om sum (probably not how it's spelt, its how it's said) which i've decided to block because it's just Ai garbage (i think) as it's basically a format that recursively repeats in an endless loop. It's awful to listen to. But it doesn't seem to bother them.

my 6 year old is playing #untitledgoosegame on her own for the first time. She just asked me for a pad and paper so she can write the list down so she doesn't have to use "that button" to see the list. Been playing games for 5 seconds and she's already trying to optimize her playthroughs...

a little semi circle window thing. This is open and she crawled her way to freedom from there. Partially proud, partially annoyed she's still up and eating into our precious post bedtime freedom i zip the window shut and tie the two zips together. She can't untie knots yet... so we're ok...

out of the front door of the tent grinning from ear to ear. We go inside to inspect how she did, find part of the inner tent that forms her room has collapsed. The zip for the door is exactly where it should be. How did she get out? It's the only door. Going inside we find that the inner tent has

for her to get to. First night, some alien baby in tummy moments, but she relents and goes to sleep only an hour after bed time. Night two we do the same and then our eldest says "Esme is out of her room". We assume this can't be true and while asking "did you zip it up properly?" she appears

2 year olds, maybe should be used an elite QA testers? Or i'm just a tired dad.
So we've been camping this week in North Wales. It's our youngest first camping holiday. The only way she sleeps if she believes there is no way out of her sleeping room in the tent. So we zip it so the zips are too high

Nice. I do like form although I don't often reach for it. This definitely inspired me to have a little play with it on the next thing I'm working on.

Just finished a quickdesign exercise using synth layers in this visuals of a Esoteric Device VFX by Lefi S using UE5 Niagara. FORM + Prism in NI Reaktor were key tools for the sound here, specially the “Tetris” moment 🎧 Fun little experiment!

Agreed. tbf i think Nintendo are pretty close to doing this. At least my only experience working as a first party dev for them was that they had a high bar when it came to bugs. I'm not really a nintendo gamer, so perhaps i miss the complaints. But i don't hear people complain about bugs with them.

the ground if they had their wish. The C-Suites have their belief that enormous marketing budgets reap the biggest rewards and marketing want their campaigns to hit date X. Who do you think wins in an argument between people who sell people ideas for living and people who make games?
benwolland.bsky.social
I know. When it comes to AAA marketing budgets are probably as big as development budgets. AAA companies are run with different mindsets in each department. The devs want to make a great game with no bugs. The people making decisions want a smash hit and are sure the devs would run the company into
benwolland.bsky.social
They probably had the bug reports. Especially if they pushed a lot of fixes for day 1 patch. It's always a question of marketing strategy with big releases. Delaying AC doesn't mean they fixed the pipeline issue. Only when it's released you can see that. So the article is perhaps overly optimistic.
