I will always remember five years ago today teaching a distance leaning US History class to English Language Learner Newcomers. We were studying the Civil War and neither they or I could understand how the Confederate flag was being waved in the US Capitol

“Can’t believe NYC elected a Muslim as mayor.”

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.

I love @jess5th.bsky.social’s tradition of starting and ending the year with a poem. Ashley M. Jones’s “Lullaby for the Grieving” is perfect.

maybe there are angels here, too—

Through consulting, coaching, and the #MLLEcosystemProject I tried to walk in my values and help others walk in theirs.

Thank you to the educators across the 🌎 who trusted me to be apart of their learning journey.

January is the perfect time to be in community with other equity minded educators.

Whether you are an educational leader designing systems aligned with your values, or an educator strengthening your instructional toolbox, we are stronger when we learn and grow in community together.

This strategy sparks joy. So simple, minimal prep. High discussion. High reasoning.

That feeling as a coach, when you share a strategy that really sparks your coachee. You see them get excited. You see the wheels turning. You see them immediately start building/planning.

It's the small wins, am I right?

September Newsletter is out this week. I'm exploring alignment to core values and being real with who we are as educators, especially in times when so many of our students are under attack.

Sustained partnerships are the best partnerships. Joined Seisen International School. This year we dove into the #coteachingadventure.

So grateful to see how the teachers meaningfully engaged as they rumbled with new ideas and worked to be flexible in their #instructionaldesign.

I'm delighted to be partnering with Tucson Regional Educator Collaborative to bring this workshop to early years educators in September.

How can we honor the joyful, play-based spirit of early childhood while supporting language development for all learners—especially our multilinguals?

Practice being honest with your kids now, because when they ask you what this time in America was like, you will want to be able to tell them the truth, and you will want them to believe you.
