If Democrats like @markwarner.bsky.social and @kaine.senate.gov go along with "reforming" and "restraining" or "retraining" ICE they're making a huge mistake and validating the horrors of the past year. Primary them.
New in PN: 'Abolish ICE' is imperative

"There's no amount of training that can instill basic humanity in thugs who willingly mistreat women, children, and old men. ICE agents reportedly dined at a Mexican restaurant in MN before arresting employees. How will 'training' fix that level of depravity?"
'Abolish ICE' is imperative
It's also better politics than you might think.

"...Mass deportation is more than a human rights abomination—it is a fiscal catastrophe, threatening to starve Social Security of contributors, embolden tax cheats, and hobble the agencies tasked with recovering stolen public money."
Need to highlight the $2 trillion cost of ICE and the cuts in health care and food aid paying for this militarization of our cities and the graft enriching the private prison industry housing and abusing these detainees.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

I would implore my Democratic colleagues in the senate to vote no

"Thousands of masked, heavily armed agents, some with minimal training, have been unleashed on the streets of an American state. They have been promised near-total legal immunity by the president, effectively unshackled from any constitutional constraints."
Not immigration enforcement, occupation.

This Christmas, I have just one wish for you:
Take a moment to really see the older people in your life.
Let them know they’re loved, valued, and never invisible.
Share a smile with an elder you don’t know.
Offer a warm holiday greeting.
Small gestures carry enormous power.
