New to the party, and finding friends I haven’t seen on social media since 2022! Seems like a decent party to wander into.

For new folks: I’m a historian of architecture and planning, writing a book about architect J. Max Bond Jr. I also sometimes post about the Cincinnati Reds and records. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is who we're dealing with, folks.

Today I heard a Morning Edition interview with Karoline Leavitt in which almost the entirety of Steve Inskeep's Qs were about the health care subsidies expiring, she had zero effective responses, and it became the center of the conversation. For the first time made me think this is a good strategy.

Little noted and very bleak, for those in preservation and beyond. Specifically, NPS pulled funding for surveys of LGBTQ+ sites in DC and Providence, and also for the very specific (& not remotely controversial) NHL nomination of Bayard Rustin's NYC house. www.washingtonblade.com/2025/10/01/u...
UPDATE: Nat’l Park Service cancels grants for 3 LGBTQ projects
The Trump administration redirected congressionally allocated historic preservation funds away from LGBTQ projects despite awarding all other grants.

This is a perfect example of how Donald Trump views the entire federal government, and really the whole country, as a thing that belongs to him personally.

L'État, c'est moi.

Yes, it was a bizarre response. Even if she thinks that, which she shouldn't, she certainly shouldn't say it!
bgoldst.bsky.social
Yeah what's up with that??? We need Charlie Sheen to counteract him.

I guess that’s the line where JD’s obsequiousness meets his blind ambition 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cathy Engelbert, whose three-point game is weak, earns 38 times more than Caitlin Clark.

In a conversation with Cathy Engelbert, Napheesa Collier noted that Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers and other young stars are driving massive revenue for the WNBA, but are making so little from their rookie contracts.

The commissioner's response, per Collier:

Kind of hilarious, frankly, that this was the group that had to listen to a tirade about being physically fit and you can see in their faces how much they enjoyed the experience.
A lot of trim, glum military leaders listen to Hegseth and Trump drone on.

Pretty much the exact same speech pattern as Biden in the June 2024 debate...

I thought the same thing. A roomful of people who have excelled in the complexity of their jobs being talked at by a simple-minded chump.

It's weird how much he lives inside his own head, and sad that he has a position where we have to hear all of it.

This guy LOVES war crimes. That should be the headline after this crazy speech.

Hegseth: "You should not pay for an earnest mistake for your entire career. That's why today, at my direction, we're making changes to the retention of adverse information on personnel records."

Imagine being so smart, well trained, and complex in your understanding of your job and having to sit there and listen to this tv huckster reduce it to pew-pew

The irony is this speech is 100% about how people look and rewarding them for that. Affirmative action for swole beardless bros.
atrupar.com
Hegseth: "For too long we've promoted too many uniformed leaders for the wrong reasons -- based on their race, gender quotas, historic so-called 'firsts'...we've weeded out so-called 'toxic leaders' under guise of double blind psychology assessments. We became the 'woke department.' But not anymore"

I joked that he’d do pull-ups on stage but that’s basically what he’s doing.

Hegseth: "It all starts with physical fitness and appearance. If the secretary of war can do regular hard PT, so can every member of our joint force. Frankly, it's tiring to look out at combat formations and see fat troops. Likewise, it's completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals."

Hey, take it easy on the guy. It's been tiring commuting every day from New Jersey for the last four years.

This is bad, but for the same reasons that ICE detaining all the other people is also bad. Most just don't get the benefit of press attention.
