something i rly like abt the more abstract kinds of image/video art (procedural art, demoscene, video synth stuff, &c.) is how it wholeheartedly embraces & highlights the strangeness of the RGB color space, whereas most digital illustrators r constantly trying 2 obfuscate it

Here's a paragraph you might not expect to find in a 1998 sci-fi/super hero paperback for babies.
Unless you're familiar with Animorphs, in which case you would know that the series is routinely like this.

A red-tailed hawk morphs into some common variety of brown rabbit. That is, the rabbit is on the bottom-left, the hawk is on the top-right, and there are three transitionary stages in between. Ears gradually emerge. The wings turn into arms. Talons become paws. Beak to nose. That kind of thing.
The background is a cloudy gradient, going from purple at the top to yellow-orange at the bottom. There is also a hazy, translucent boy seen directly behind the hawk.

I went back to trying to design the #pelliculus and did much better this time. They’re intended to invoke a Sanrio or My Little Pony kind of feeling, a cast of cute little creatures where everyone can choose a favourite.

Dug up an old Rogers review of Monster Hunter 2nd G from 2008. Funny seeing which observations were right on the money and which ones, especially after Wilds, feel laughably naive. Also learned that the recent word-of-the-day status of "friction" is a resurgence; here's a nearly 20-year-old example
