Big City Dick is an expression locally for a Detective in a major crimes unit, nothing more sinister/weird.
Despite the cuts to AHS, when I needed them they showed the fuck up and gave me impeccable care when I needed them. True professionals and good people.

I relenquished something today. A warrant card I’ve held for over a quarter of a century. It was tougher than I have words for.

Share your favorite insults with me. Since I rarely enter discourse on Bluesky, I'm missing getting to use some of mine. My favorites are usually calling people food. Like hamburger instead of idiot or cabbage instead of moron. It's so hard to comeback from it without sounding like well, a cabbage.

am almost exactly the same age as you. Also a damn tough while. I don’t know your life but I’ve given my all (a detective in a major Canadian city, specializing in child abuse). Doing one every effort is all we can do.
I'm having a rough go of it lately, and have been thinking: everyone is going through something, and you have no idea what it is, or how it's affecting them.

Quote post this is if you're going through something, and maybe we'll all realize that we aren't as alone as we feel right now.

Chatting with a friend in Calgary, swapping Stampede stories.

My condolences, folks. I despised The ‘Pede.

One of my favourite stories from my years in Calgary:

I lived at the bottom of Scotsman’s Hill. Woke up to a body on my lawn as I was leaving for campus.

I poked it with my toe.

Happy Canada Day. You’ve done right by my country and it’s appreciated.

I have not been without at least one job, even for a day, since the late 80s. I’m starting the process for retirement this week. It’s daunting. I’m not leaving the only job I’ve ever wanted because I’m dissatisfied, but the opposite. I love my team, my management team, and the work I do. #highnote

American friends; we know you’ve had one heck of a week, so we will keep an eye on your president for a few days. Hope you get some rest.

@kikkiplanet.bsky.social on a random midweek day, I am so grateful that someone I made friends with on That Other Place years ago continues to be an amazing person. Sometimes the world is exactly how you hoped it would be.

My employer uses Palantir. When being trained on it I asked a rep why they would name it after something used for evil in the Lord of the Rings books.

She said, the Palantirs weren’t inherently evil, they were just a remarkable tool, as is the software. How they are used is up to the user.

Just rewatching Wallander with Kenneth Branagh. It is only three short seasons but leads up to a devastating ending.

I keep thinking that there is an infinitesimal but non-zero chance that Trump has had a major medical event and what we are seeing is Neurolink and Grok approximating him.

To be fair, Trump hasn’t passed the Turing test in about a decade even watching him speak.

I had a wonderfully Canadian moment today, speaking in Ukrainian with my Iranian born barber during a haircut. I fucking love this country.

I was fortunate enough to meet Rosita today. She’s a lovely cat who lives in a restaurant by the sea.

@theauthorguy.bsky.social thank you for following me back. You’ve given me so much over the years and all I’ve given you back is buying books and one time a laugh at that other place that conflated Letterkenny and Pence, plus a plug for how cool the leather edition of Lamb is. You fucking rock.
