I've got some opinions about Arsenal. And oh boy, are they average.
The highlights show we did have good chances...
In order:
- Timber header just over
- Martinelli big chance at the back post
- Gyokores close to a tap-in
- Martinelli half-chance volley
- Martinelli curl just wide
- Rice FK tipped over
- Rice shot forces good save
- Gyokores works a shot, just wide

Just seen Mikel in his post-match presser saying they had to risk both White and Saliba because they 'didn't have any other options'.

Penny for Lewis-Skelly's thoughts on that?

Feels weird he wasn't trusted to start - him and Ethan both really low down the pecking order right now...

For Everton, I want to see a team that feels balanced, suited to the opponent and contains proven relationships, which I don't think has always been the case recently. I'd go with:

Raya
Timber Saliba Hincapie Calafiori
Zubimendi
Odegaard Rice
Saka Gyokores Trossard

Jesus or Merino a temptation...

Big Gabi held our identity at the start of the season.

Everyone knew it - Carragher did a whole section on MNF about his influence in both boxes.

Now that him and a couple of others have gone and we've started conceding the odd goal - we need a new identity that platforms our attacking talent.

Think that's our first lucky win of the season? Maybe Old Trafford on the first day another contender.

You do need days like this if you're going to win a title. But you also need to avoid having days like this too often.

Got a week now to analyse this and properly train, which feels so valuable.

It's the first time this season I think the tension and pressure well and truly got to us - and I think we're partly to blame for creating the conditions for a tense match.

We created stoppages by lining up ineffective long throws and didn't horseshoe it enough at times - forcing it unnecessarily.

Interesting to see who plays where at the back - I'd like to see Hincapie LB as think that'll be his best position long term.

Squad is starting to look super strong again despite still having a few injured/unavailable. So many options on that bench in case the starting 11 doesn't work.

Seems there's an actual chance Christian Norgaard will play CB in a PL game for us.

If you'd have told me that would happen at the start of the season, I'd have thought surely that'd mean too many injuries to mount a title challenge.

Yet here we are. Wolves hopefully comes as a great time.

Thoughts on tonight:
- 80% of the time we look much better with a collaborative CF. Gyokores was bought for the 20%.

- Our super aggressive press was still played through too easily.

- Wonder if Zubi playing 90 tonight means Mikel's ready to try the Rice, Odegaard, Eze midfield again on Saturday.

Eager to watch for relationships between Odegaard and Gyokores and Martinelli and Gyokores - I feel like those two guys have shown potential to combine well with him.

Seeing Madueke in triangle with White and Odegaard will also be interesting - though I kind of hope it's not a permanent triangle...

A nice window into what the rest of his career will look like. Pretty ridiculous (but entirely unsurprising) that his ankles are getting crunched in friendlies.
🚨 Max Dowman expected to be out for approximately 2 months after suffering ankle ligament damage. 15yo England youth int’l attacker injured in challenge by opponent in #AFC friendly v Manchester United but anticipated surgery not required 🚨

I'd actually quite like to see Eze LW tomorrow night - think it'd be good man management to say, 'Look, you fucked up, but I believe in you - show me you can learn'.

But with Rice looking like he'll sit the game out, only way to do that might be to start Zubi, which wouldn't be popular...

Can't be too disappointed with drawing Portsmouth, but it would've been so much easier at home.

Fratton Park is a really tough, old-fashioned ground and they'll generate a hell of an atmosphere and probably play rough - gonna be tough going.

That's where a Norgaard signing could come into its own.

Eze isn't a player who's ever been given defensive responsibility by his previous clubs.

When he was playing in the centre, his pressing and off-ball intensity visibly improved.

On the left, he still needs to develop those instincts.

Think he's worth persevering with out wide.
