🇮🇸 #Iceland, 1920. Side effects of too much truth include death… in this historical suspense novel set under the Northern lights.

🥇 Readers’ Favorite Gold Medal – Best Historical Fiction.

Right side: the cover of ‘Storytellers’ by Bjørn Larssen.

Left side – review quotes:
★★★★★ This story feels like how I would believe Iceland feels to an outsider looking in, rough, dark, and beautiful.
★★★★★ Bjørn Larssen’s “Storytellers”, firmly cements his place as a masterful storyteller in a 20th century saga set in rural and rugged Iceland.
★★★★★ If you don't believe that the blacksmith, a depressive alcoholic, could steal your heart, give this book a try.
★★★★★ This unique tale is storytelling at its best.
★★★★★ Storytellers is an incredible read. I'd love to go to Iceland one day - seeing the Northern Lights is on my bucket list. Even if I never do, though, I feel like I've kind of been there with this book. A suspenseful, hilarious, poignant, extraordinary book.
★★★★★ Hauntingly atmospheric, it somehow shows us all the dark bleakness of the place while inspiring us with wanderlust to see it. The author's love of Iceland shines through.
★★★★★ This exquisite tale comes together brilliantly at the end … in quite a satisfying and impressive way. The reader can feel the heart and soul that went into writing it.
★★★★★ There is something magical and enchanting about Storytellers that makes it an unputdownable book.

Very good question. Sandstone feels like a good candidate.

#PlotTober ‘Bloodbath & Beyond’ explains why Freya became the person/Goddess she is in The Ten Worlds – it’s her coming-of-age book.

Surviving three burnings at a stake (this is difficult to make funny, but #NorseMythology gonna Norse mythology) will do things to you.

10. What are some potential backstory or contextual reasons for your main character(s) having this kind of personality or behaving this way? In other words, what could have caused them to be the person they are at the start of your WIP?

Whaaaat o_O I don’t want to upload my ID either! Did you get an email, or was it when you were adding a new book/changing an existing one?

To paraphrase John Muir: 'Into Iceland I go, to lose my mind and find my soul' for #WorldMentalHealthDay 🫂 Where's your soothing place? 🤔 Arriving in 🇮🇸 is like an exhale of relief (but luckily I have closer ones too!)

#WritingLifeMonthly Promoting, actually. I’m okay with the writing, editing, revising, etc. But then I just want to silently plop the books online and disappear back into my cave. I also want to sell lots of them. Those two things don’t go together.

And sometimes, like now, I have writing burnout…

#WIPSnips A glorious return of the actual WIP, Bloodbath & Beyond! Today, Freya meets Chad the human and they discuss things big and small. Including wars.

“Somewhere, I believe, the esteemed Terry Pratchett is smiling and nodding with approval at Larssen” –
@plstuart-author.bsky.social
“I fear nothing with Odin by my side!” Drops of saliva flew out of the man’s mouth. As if by magic, they stopped short of reaching Freya’s face. “The prize is Valhalla!”
“The prize for what?”
“For dying in battle.”
“But if you destroy everything,” Freya pointed out, bewildered, “there will be no Valhalla either.”
“Heh heh,” the man said, narrowing his eyes and patting the side of his nose with his finger. “Chad knows the answer, heh heh.”
“Who is Chad?”
“I am Chad, my lady. You simply make the war just a wee bit smaller.”
“But how would you know how big that one was…?”
“You start really small.” Chad was clearly a man used to explaining things to women. “Then you go a bit bigger, then a bit bigger, until it’s just the right size for skalds to sing about it, heh heh.”
“Isn’t that called compensating?”
“Compass – what?”
“It’s when the size of your… never mind. How will you know it’s the right size? Of war? I mean, suppose you go that one step too far…”

I can only think of four-letter words as a response to that :( I hope they do something about it, keeping my hopes/expectations low, though.

“I have not read Jennifer L Armentrout’s latest novel, The Primal of Blood and Bone. Nor have I sniffed it, or licked it. Which might be an odd thing to do, but for the fact that a special edition of the romantasy book has been released with garlic-infused ink.”

#thread but I was *just* thinking about how I once opened up to someone who told me it was okay, and they told me I massively triggered them and they didn’t want to hear all that. I’m still ashamed of how badly I misjudged…something. And I still don’t know what exactly I should/could have said. 🤐

When I was little my coping mechanism for getting these things “wrong” was to not say anything at all. I learned to never tell initiate conversations (and to avoid others doing so), never to ask questions and never ask for help.

I know FB is trash, but does anyone know how to actually reach a human at FB for moderation?

i reported a user for multiple posts about using racial slurs along with pictures of kids at homecoming who were in interracial relationships. The slur isn't common, so i dont think AI registered it

But, but… humankind NEEDS videos of Sam Altman stealing GPUs from stores and horses riding other horses in a non-creepy way (if a non-creepy way exists in this case). AI videos are the future of humankind. Survival optional.

Energy requirements for AI mean that the only way for the bubble not to burst would require companies to multiply their carbon footprint to an unimaginable degree. Right now, while AI is barely functional and mostly a novelty for the lazy, it requires so much energy that data centers rival cities.

My head is currently playing ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ and I actually don’t mind at all. Normally the songs that get stuck in my head irritate me. I clearly don’t have enough of The Life of a Showgirl yet and I’ve played it enough times to get it to #1 in the Netherlands.
