This is another very significant reason why I want to be successful: that it passes that success onto others that I very much care for. It means more comfort, visibility, stability and fulfilled ambitions for my publisher, and more support for every other author they dedicate themselves to.

Those of us who are still around are experiencing ever-reducing margins and caffeine dependence. This year IQ's goal was to sell 175 books directly through our website. Not a ridiculously high number, but I've just checked and we managed a whole 69 (no smirking please). We did better than some other indie presses who had to close their doors this year, and behind others racing ahead with excellent titles, campaigns and support. As we move into 2024, remember that as readers with platforms, you matter, so so much. Keep shouting about your fave books, and the presses you admire. Eventually I hope IQ will be on more radars.
