One thing that T and I did is we got a box of business cards that have his name/contact info on one side and mine on the other, and we keep them on us so when we're out walking around the neighborhood we can give them to people. I know most people prob toss them but it signals "friendly" at least!

I see why you would not want the Bluetooth connection to be open to just anyone to control the mask. But no, downloading the library shouldn't require it.

Per Wikipedia, Worcestershire Sauce as it currently exists is from 1837; exact origins/inspirations are a little unclear.

And I don't just mean the explicit sexual content - turns out the racism and misogyny embedded in our culture are thereby also deeply embedded into many people's sexual fantasies!

If my experience as a PSO is any guide, a good chunk of what this gets used for is going to be relatively boring stuff, but some of it is going to be extremely vile. And yeah, better to say that to a machine with no feelings, but the machine also won't tell you it's fucked up.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

The absolutely VILE things some people are going to say to this app because it's not a person, but then normalize, and then say to an actual human being...

IDK, I can see how you would want a password on that! But not to get emails about it every other day

The good(?) news is that in the particular instance I am thinking of, my employer is the one paying for the license

Remember when you used to be able to install a piece of software on your computer and then just... use it? And you didn't get a login prompt to the cloud service every other day, even when you weren't in the middle of using that software?

I read a review of a hotel once that complained that the housekeeping staff vacuuming the hallway didn't look happy while they were doing it

It is a damp and drizzly fall day here and both of us are off. We have onions caramelizing on the stove for soup and bread dough rising on the counter.

But pre-2020 we had some really inconsistent policies around who could/couldn't work remotely and some people who jumped through some BS hoops. The person who was VP when I started and is pres now was very anti remote work for a long time, till 2020 proved him wrong

Yeah, my manager was working from his home office in Iowa while I was working from our company office in DC; when we transitioned to WFH for everyone it was basically seamless except he started calling me on Teams instead of the phone. Our clients are also distributed across the US.

My company is remote-first. We downsized our offices and everyone gets a home office stipend to spend on things like office furniture, Internet bills etc. You can work from an office if you want, but most don't. But we had offices across the US before, so we were equipped for remote collaboration

The first time I saw one of these IRL I was so freaked out, but then I realized the wasps had taken out the hornworm that wanted to eat my tomatoes so now I am always glad to see them.

In our home library we generally consider science fiction and fantasy to be one large genre and don't bother separating. T does separate hardcovers from paperbacks tho.

Sometimes self-care is spending 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon catching up on day job paperwork because knowing it's waiting for you is stressing you out.

The thing I keep thinking when I see this is "does this man have no friends with whom he can workshop his texts?"

Can you put the bag in the bin and then kind of reach under and cut a hole in the bottom of the bag and then slowly pull the bag out?
