Telling stories of games and the people who play them, I love what I do and where I do it. Broadcaster. Writer. Husband. Father. Human being. Constantly trying to be better at all of the above. This is my personal account. www.bobsocci.com
Thirteen Patriots seasons. None more enjoyable (despite its disappointing ending), nor more appreciated than that which just came to pass. Unexpected in September, it was a 4 1/2-month football joyride. Thanks to all who made it happen and shared it with us on @985thesportshub.bsky.social

Good day for a reminder. Buy local. Support small businesses. Order at @bookshop.org. And support local, independent journalism. It looks out for even those who don't look out for it.

A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world

Being an FBI agent wasn’t a job to former Bear Charles Tillman as much as it was a vocation. He loved the people he worked with and found honor, integrity and nobility in their service. Then came that day last January. My story. www.nytimes.com/athletic/689...

With respect to all other daily sports sections, the consistent quality of @washingtonpost.com reporting and writing and the scope and importance of its stories — from preps to pros — has been unrivaled in my nearly 30 years as a reader and subscriber. #SaveThePost

Coach of the Year?

The Patriots Mike Vrabel, who regularly signs autographs and interacts with fans, took a moment before Sunday’s game for a selfie (or, for fellow Ted Lasso fans, an “ussie”).

Then his team went out and gave the entire home crowd a 14th win to celebrate.

Equally outstanding on any sport, on any platform, as we were reminded (again!) last night. And more than an exemplar, Sean’s long been a generous source of advice and insights for others in this field and an advocate for local voices working in neighboring booths. Long overdue.

As @christopherprice.bsky.social writes (beautifully), a story about giving of oneself and acting out of empathy and kindness. A story worth your time.
A chance encounter on Route 1 this summer provided a glimpse into TreVeyon Henderson’s off-field character, and served as the latest example as to why some around Foxborough believe he’ll eventually become the team’s spiritual successor to Matthew Slater.

“That’s just Trey. That’s who he is.”
‘I’m so thankful that God just allowed us to cross paths.’ Encounter provides a glimpse of Patriots rookie TreVeyon Henderson. - The Boston Globe
Off the field, the rookie running back is quiet, humble, almost painfully earnest, and seemingly always focused on doing the right thing.

Good on Kyle Dugger for taking advantage of his new opportunity in Pittsburgh.
Kyle Dugger hasn’t been with the Steelers long… but has already made a huge impact.

Whatever the outcomes elsewhere, it's fun again to watch the scoreboard on a rare Sunday off.

Pats finish 4-0 against the NFC South (Carolina, New Orleans, Atlanta and Tampa Bay). Pats were 5-16 in previous 21 games vs. NFC.
As Mike Vrabel greeted each player on their way back to the locker room, he kept saying, “NFC South champs! NFC South champs!” — a reference to the quality of opponent the Patriots beat.

What’s up in Foxborough? To Browns punter Corey Bojorquez, it’s a pregame field goal by Patriots kicker Andy Borregales. What’s going down? Browns at Pats on @985thesportshub.bsky.social.

From @theathletic.com, with a reminder that in the second iteration of the Browns, the Patriots have been fortunate to go from Drew Bledsoe to Tom Brady to (just five years later) Drake Maye.
