I lived in Shorewood, WI, for a while, and that describes it. The rural small town I grew up in is not any kind of Hallmark town. Shorewood kind of is. I really did like it there, but I like actual urban life, too.

It's true for me, anyway. I was never scared in Houston or Dallas or San Antonio or Milwaukee or LA. I look over my shoulder in my town where ppl know I'm a journo & some don't like it. Racism & bigotry exist everywhere but there they have a dangerous edge. The air is thick w the threat of violence

I grew up in a rural village. Beautiful. People I love still live there. But it's not great beyond the access issues. I saw a vid that said ppl in small towns are afraid of cities & ppl in cities are afraid of small towns but those who've lived in both are only afraid of small towns. That's true.
