I feel an (unearned) special kinship with the Lackadaisy production I skeeted about yesterday. Part of it is because I'm friends with or an acquaintance of may of the people in the production. But also, back when I was rolling in the dough, some of the same people worked on things for me! (1/3)

Also, while we're at it, I'll remind you this can backfire royally. AI isn't flawlessly accurate. Recall I got an email raving about how much they loved my book, calling out specific points in the plot in great detail. The only problem? It was written in 2014 by a person I co-hosted a podcast with.

I'm even seeing this in emails from marketers I (formerly) had some respect for. I am sympathetic to the challenges of finding people to buy your service, but when you use a tool built by stealing from me, you really fail to ingratiate yourself to me.

One of the increasingly common side effects of AI is spam emails written in such a way that it APPEARS they have read the book want me to buy marketing for. Most of the time, these are books that came out before 2022, since these are the books that were stolen in their entirety and processed for AI.

I've mused in the past about the fact that Frollo's horse from Disney's Hunchback looks more severe and evil than he does. Today, the following question came to my mind.

What would be funnier:
- A villain with the happiest, most friendly horse possible?
- A hero with a downright demonic steed?

I was discussing a short story I didn't remember writing, and I delivered this message to my publisher.

I hope most people enjoy my stories, but there are exceptions. Some folks are exerting an outsize--one might say an unconstitutional--amount of influence. I hope it worries them when they read about unity and triumph over cartoonish evil, because people might choose it over what they're peddling.
