β€œI will honour HALLOWEEN in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.” -Charles Dickens probably
Another day, another flash fiction piece submitted to some magazines.

Just cleaned my apartment instead of sitting down and writing. I feel like that’s a square on the author bingo card.

β€œNo, my initiative order doesn’t match my character’s vibes!” Is the most D&D sentence I’ve ever heard uttered πŸ˜‚

Ahh!!! One of my favorites. So underrated.
You’d think with all the real horror going on these days it would be easier than ever to write horror fiction.

Sadly, I can’t top the real world. Political, social, and economic problems aside, can we talk about the fact that there are CHRISTMAS decorations out before Halloween?
Such a core childhood memory.

My husband and I do the Chamberlain’s β€œhhhhhmmm?” daily.
Hit the 10k mark on my WIP today and wrote a chapter that felt pretty good (for a rough draft).

The hardest part of being a writer is that you have to be self-motivated.

So, write. Even when you don’t feel like it.

And you don’t really know which you’ll get until you sit down and start writing.
I don’t read a ton of nonfiction, but John Green’s Everything is Tuberculosis was really interesting and definitely worth the read!

The hardest part of starting my next writing project is never creating the concept or having the motivation.

It’s seeing the messy 1st draft and not trying to make it perfect before starting draft 2. Stagnancy in the process kills more stories than bad writing.

T. Kingfisher has done it again. What Stalks the Deep was a great addition to the Sworn Soldier series!

An important element in improving your writing is in self-reflection and the identification of your weaknesses. It can be tempting to ignore the flaws in your writing, hoping your strengths will outshine them. But discovering and improving your weaknesses will make your next tale more well-rounded.
Added another chapter to my book before breakfast. I’m up to 3,000 words in the last week!

Reading the new T. Kingfisher book (What Stalks the Deep) on the beach and thriving.

I always finish the book, then look at the reviews. I much prefer going in blind.
I would be like, β€œone draft and we’re done!” But even the short stories take their time.
Just did this with one of my MCs and it made a world of difference. She’s so much more human now!
Lights Out is also such a creepy short!
