What is important is that eventually Robin gets to a point where he finally accepts all that he has seen and heard and wants to take action
I think Robin going through this vicious cycle of anger and acceptance is one that many in academia follow. Sometimes speaking out about issues in academia feels like talking to an ostrich with its head in the sand. This is how Robin's character development goes away well
Those in academia struggle to reconcile the fact that while their work may contribute to better things in the world (i.e climate or cancer research), it also harms disenfranchised groups and furthers empire.
The fact is, academia denies change and ignores what causes harm simply because one feels they don't have the power to make a change or because that is how it has always been.
Babel by R.F. Kuang is heavy handed in it's themes but I don't believe this is Kuang not trusting her readers. As someone who is an academic, I think this speaks to a broader issue in academia.
Don't say you love when women read "male fantasy" but then your page only supports problematic white cis straight male fantasy authors. We should read books by male authors, but let's focus our efforts to promoting marginalized and/or unproblematic male authors

3 more months until the release of Cry, Voidbringer! Here's a fun little trope list and some book comps!

Cry, Voidbringer releases 28 October 2025 in the US with @binderybooks.bsky.social, and 6 Nov 2025 in the UK with @solarisbooks.bsky.social. We're almost there!
I remember seeing reviews of Babel and people disliking it because of the footnotes (which is totally fine!), but I can't stop thinking about House of Leaves lmao
This book has shifted the way I think about climate change and environmental justice. Go read this asap! #climatechange #booksky #indigenousreads #indigenousbooks
What are some of your most anticipated releases this year? I'm looking forward to Cry, Voidbringer by Elaine Ho and Katabasis by R. F. Kuang

The tiktok trend of charcuterie chips is making me so mad and it's not because it doesn't look delicious... it's because those are nachos you rebranded
