Maybe am old fashioned, but when I visited grandparents in their village as a child, the local vicar did a thing called parish visiting. Ie if you lived in the parish, you received an occasional visit at home from the Revd whether you went to church or not #thearchers

Thanks. I wish I’d known them better, but the longest lived of them popped off just as I was reaching an age to appreciate them. Still, at least I know who they were. Eg imagine being adopted and never knowing your birth family at all
