Nicki Minaj is not religious, or at least this new outwardly religious persona is new for her. She is, however (1) addicted to crack and (2) trying to get her brother out of jail for raping a 11 year old girl

You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test

Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)

Good tech.

Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)

Bad tech.

every company i've ever seen use ai-generated content in their advertising has irreparably damaged their brand in my eyes

my panda express fortune cookie says "a great reckoning approaches, and you must rise to meet it or die. trust no one; but the man with the silver earring will do you no harm. salvation will be found where the brass clock strikes nine. lucky numbers 13 40 08"

one of the big questions i've been racking my brains to answer over the past few years is "why are there so few straight men pursuing careers in academia in my field?" so far, my most profound finding has been that the straight dude cliff begins *after* the cohort currently in their mid-40s

the one thing americans are really failing on rn is preparedness. are you *really* prepared for a party to break out right now? do you have more than 400 standard drinks stored in your home? solo cups?

AI is NOT a problem for university instructors. you just need to completely overhaul your course and change every assignment to make it harder to cheat on, tacitly viewing every one of your students with suspicion and changing you from a teacher into a cop whose only purpose is to catch and punish

One thing I hope people take the time to acknowledge: The sea change in public opinion has been achieved because violence, though encourage by a lot of people here online, was never once employed by the movement. Violence was solely the purview of the state and that is why the state is losing.

ok i did manage to analyze and graph it out and the result is that vowel duration and intensity are DEFINITELY surface manifestations of underlying stress, but not in a way that works cleanly for any sort of phonological analysis YAY :DDDD

NO MATTER WHAT ITS STRESS OR LENGTH VALUE IS, THE INTENSITY OF EVERY VOWEL IN THE WORD IS ALWAYS EXACTLY THE GOD DAMN SAME

There's a special, Balkans-only Internet that the rest of the world isn't allowed to know about, where they call each other slurs that would kill anyone else stone dead.

apparently no one wanted to tell me that there was an extremely pygmyized (<45kg adult) population of modern humans living in Palau up until the 1100s. that's fine i guess

very interesting data today: post-contact population declines in polynesian societies strongly mirror those in the americas, with an average population decline of 95.5% and an average time from contact to nadir of 137 years. for micronesian societies, though, it's 90.9% and 75 years respectively

Kākāpōs are no ordinary green birds. Not only are they astonishingly rare, but they also hold the title of the world’s heftiest parrot.

Now, fewer than 300 of them exist. That’s why conservationists are relieved that the flightless bird is breeding again. https://wapo.st/45LvsK3
