Canada’s video game industry is MASSIVE but under-appreciated.
That’s been bothering me.

So, I spent the past 1.5 years asking dozens of AAA/indie devs, actors, lobbyists & more about how to address this & got an incredible range of perspectives! 🇨🇦 🎮

My 2nd-biggest @mobilesyrup.com feature ever:
How to uplift Canadian game makers? We asked them
Canadian AAA and indie developers, lobbyists, actors and entrepreneurs share how we can uplift our often-underappreciated gaming industry.

ESA Canada & its global counterparts have published a new Power of Play report highlighting the positive impacts of games on players beyond entertainment.
Chatted with ESAC about the Canadian findings, which are pretty interesting. (Apparently, we like puzzle games more than the rest of the world!)

The global Power of Play survey shows how games are much more than just a source of entertainment.

Me struggling to juggle a bunch of things and resist the constant urge to go back to the other Ivalice games after the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster.

With multiple reviews and other commitments out of the way, it’s FINALLY time to jump in. Hell yeah.

Yeah, that’s totally fair. I also just really dislike mandatory replays. Just feels very disrespectful of the player’s time. Just doing largely the same thing multiple times with some changes. Especially questionable to drag out a survival horror game, of all things, to effectively 30+ hours long.
bradshankar.bsky.social
Totally, that’s a good way of putting it.
I did pick up on some of the themes, like gender roles and societal pressures. Admittedly, a big part of it is reading the documents you can find that allude to some of what’s going on. But it just drags so much in one playthrough, let alone multiple.

I agree. I actually think the core narrative is strong, but it’s told poorly because they basically chopped it up to sustain multiple playthroughs. The expectation that you’ll play the game *four* times for a the full story, all while putting up with the clunky combat, is pretty egregious.

Christmas came (very) early with Nintendo of Canada this year. 🍄 🎄

It's no secret how much I love God of War, but man, controllers are especially ridiculously priced nowadays. $110 CAD for what's basically a plain white gamepad with a red stripe?
God of War 20th anniversary PS5 controller now available for pre-order in Canada
Naturally, the white-and-red controller is inspired by Kratos himself.

Hey so it's been a weird 24 hours where several opportunities didn't work out so if you're looking for any content creation / TTRPG casting / hosting / video game accessibility consulting / internal talks for October or November take a look at my website and reach out if I'm a good fit.

Thanks <3

Might just have to rewatch One Battle After Another alongside Spider-Man 3 this weekend.

I do appreciate the changes between each run, but it's largely the same with the gameplay issues persisting. It just feels needlessly drawn out, especially as it requires *3* playthroughs.
It's a shame because I really do love the story, but the way it's told in its entirety is very frustrating.

I really like a lot about Silent Hill f. The overall narrative, atmosphere, art direction & music are sublime.
But man, I can't tell you how much "replay three times for the proper ending" annoys me. Disrespectful of your time, especially when combat is so rough & increasingly forced upon you.

TBH, I rarely use Photo Mode, but I couldn’t stop taking pics in Ghost of Yōtei. Such a stunning game.
