Galnt2 neurons in the ventromedial hypothalamus counterregulate hypoglycemia via a brain-liver neurocircuit
Wang et al. reveal a biphasic counterregulatory response to hypoglycemia mediated by a threshold-dependent brain-liver neurocircuit that directly senses neuroglycopenia. Within this pathway, Galnt2 acts as a molecular brake in ventromedial hypothalamic glucose-inhibited neurons, tuning their glucose perception and modulating hepatic glucose production.
