What happens when your immune system hijacks your brain? Of all the ways our immune system can run amok & damage the body instead of protecting it, #AutoimmuneEncephalitis is one of the most unfathomable. Adding Insight, @mountsinainyc.bsky.social's Dr. Sam Horng👉 apnews.com/article/auto...
An autoimmune disease stole this man's memory. Here's how he's learning to cope
Sometimes our immune system runs amok and attacks the organ that makes us “us” — the brain. It's called autoimmune encephalitis and it can appear out of the blue.

Concerned about whether deceased brain tissue adequately resembles living brains, @mountsinainyc.bsky.social's @alexcharney.bsky.social & Brian Kopell teamed up to investigate how well the postmortem brain reflects the living organ. Overview in The Scientist 👉 www.the-scientist.com/deceased-and...
Deceased and Live Brains Modify RNA and Express Protein Differently
The Living Brain Project showed that live brain samples from patients undergoing deep brain stimulation revealed differences in RNA splicing and protein expression compared to postmortem brain tissue.

~10 years ago few months after I joined @scottrussophd.bsky.social lab I ran a 🧪 qPCR for Cldn5, a marker of 🩸 blood-brain 🧠 barrier integrity, after social stress

I never imagined it would have such an impact 1000 citations 🤯

Never looked back since then 🤓 and how is my lab 7 years old already 😱
