"Trump says what he thinks" includes not being able to show a hint of sympathy for a dead person, and it's weird that this aspect of "saying what he thinks" doesn't have the same relevance in the culture.

the key problem here is that the threshold for "publishable info" is a moving target and it moves to Trump's benefit

My immigrant parents didn't know how to do Thanksgiving. My sister and I would bring home tidbits from classmates ("We need to buy 'cranberry sauce!'") and bit by bit, we built Thanksgiving. Not cos-playing, but participating.
