Journalist working for NPR. Live in NY's Adirondack Mountains. Often elsewhere.
Love this kind of reporting. Dive in, do what scares you a little. Also a cool story about the region where I live, so I'm biased... www.adirondackexplorer.org/commentary/i...

I've been a journalist covering politics (and other stuff) since the mid 80s. I've never once heard a voter, a citizen anywhere on the political spectrum, or a Republican or Democratic politicians express the view that U.S. military control of Greenland or Venezuela would improve American lives.

Journalism: NPR reports fairly, extensively and factually on US reaction to Trump invasion of Venezuela, interviewing and quoting numerous figures who condemn the action. Social media: People huff that NPR shills for Trump because reporters don't use the exact partisan rage language they prefer🙄

Trump's decision to depose Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has drawn praise inside the U.S., especially from Republican leaders. But the invasion also faces significant opposition from elected officials across the political spectrum.

One thing I experimented with in 2025 was dropping off social media. Not evangelizing. Just sharing that it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought and also gave instant rewards in terms of time saved and bull$&#*# avoided. Sad but I think most social media turned out to be a waste of time.

Final note re Elise Stefanik #ny21. Her exit plan leaves Stefanik with a full year to wield power. She has a fat campaign war chest, her vote in the House is invaluable, but she has a long list of grievances against GOP leaders. What will she do with her anger, freedom and power? Next 12 months = 😐

Thread: Some thoughts about Rep. Elise Stefanik's departure - for now from the political stage in the US, NY, #ny21 and northern NY. First, I've written for more than a decade about Stefanik's political acumen. If she thinks it's time to jump ship, the GOP should take notice. 1/
