Voters were clear that this was what they wanted. It’s a good program that expands democracy and the Board of Elections has told us they are ready to implement. It’s time to move forward.
Fresh off grilling elections officials at a hearing yesterday, Wendell Felder introduces a bill meant to delay the implementation of ranked-choice voting.

A similar push failed during the budget talks. And, FWIW, BOE said Monday it was on track to have RCV ready by June...

I was encouraged to hear from DC Board of Elections today re their plan for Ranked Choice Voting outreach & education & the progress they've made on implementation. @cmchenderson.bsky.social & I found funding for RCV to ensure full launch of RCV in 2026. brianneknadeau.com/ranked-choic...

Congratulations to the Spirit for an incredible season, fighting to the end in their second consecutive NWSL Championship match. Lots to be proud of all season long.

My soccer-playing daughter - and many fans across DC! - already can't wait for next season.

Everybody watches women's sports!
Thank you DC for always having our back 💛💚

You showed out all year and we can’t wait to see you back in 2026!

We cannot let the dysfunction at the Department of Housing and Community Development continue if we are to ensure a path to safe and affordable housing for every District resident.

For months there have been clues that today's re-opening of ERAP would go badly. But no amount of Council oversight could have predicted this debacle. Providing dignified service to residents with housing instability should not be so difficult.

The Court today ruled what we have known all along: the federal occupation of the District is unlawful, unwelcome, and unjust.

This is a victory for democracy, and a victory for DC and our 700K residents who have stood united for our right to self-govern.

Thank you, AG Schwalb.
NEW: The Court has ruled that the National Guard deployment to DC is illegal and granted a preliminary injunction.

As we made clear from the beginning: the US military should not be policing American citizens on American soil.

This is a victory for DC, Home Rule, and American democracy.

The House action yesterday is an affront to democracy, undermines the voice and vote of 700,000 U.S. citizens and legal residents, and threatens public safety in the District with counterproductive measures.

My message to Congress: Hands Off D.C.

Tonight I look forward to hearing ideas & feedback on the name for the new middle school on Euclid St at the Ward 1 & 2 Ed Council.

I introduced a bill to name the school after Dolores Tucker: lims.dccouncil.gov/Legislation/...

Why does Congress think they can set the laws that govern our local affairs? The 700,000 residents of the District elect local leaders to make those decisions. Congress must reject these bills.
We stand united against all 13 anti–DC Home Rule bills in Congress.

DC is home to more than 700,000 residents who pay taxes, run businesses, and serve in the military. Like all Americans, we deserve the right to set our own local laws.

Congress should reject this unprecedented federal overreach.

We had a great time celebrating the opening of Carl F West Estates - affordable housing for seniors & grand families! Today was about belonging – about ensuring that the people who helped build this city can continue to live here with dignity, comfort, and peace of mind. Congrats to all involved.

Unfortunately, this is not a surprise to those of us who have been laser-focused on affordable housing in D.C. My response to @WCP story on the DHCD's mismanagement - forfeiting $35 million in affordable housing funds while - bailing out a developer.

DC Legendary Musicians has had an outsized impact on the advancement of artists & the culture of music in our city. I was so pleased to stand with with musicians & friends to name the alley next to Howard Theatre after this hugely important organization - a resource for musicians across the region.

The Potomac STILL isn't safe to swim. The Mayor could do something - for starters, she could support DC's Bottle Bill, which would stop pollution from entering streams & tributaries. We must hold industrial polluters accountable for the litter they create.

Great to be on the river w/ reporters. Residents deserve to live w/out litter in our streets, parks or river. The industry should be held accountable for keeping trash they make out of our neighborhoods. Thanks to School for Friends students for speaking so well (spontaneously!) at our press event!

Today colleagues and I approved an increased earned income tax credit & re-established a child tax credit. At a time when the Mayor’s budget was balanced on the backs of working families @cmzparker5.bsky.social & @cmfrumin.bsky.social found a way to undo some of that damage.

Great news: DC government will cover any SNAP gap in November with local funds. Great news from the courts: the feds can't shut off SNAP.
The federal government's decision to unlawfully withhold SNAP funding will leave thousands in DC at risk of hunger, thousands of children & seniors without food on the table.

We compiled a list of Ward 1 food aid resources. Please share with neighbors in need.
